Devil Lady - The Gathering (Vol. 4), The
The hour of man's dominance is fading-and blood-stained fangs await their feeding…"
Episode 14: Home:
A man who lost a daughter has been stalking Jun and pushes to expose her. She resists but ultimately her survival depends on her transforming into the Devil Lady. He finds that she's different but other Beasts are conspiring to take over and she may be humankind's last hope.
Episode 15: Crows:
A serial killer is on the loose and the team suspects it's the work of another Beast. The demonchild from the last episode abducts Jun's roommate and only Jun can save her. Of course it's all part of the plot to convert Jun to her darker nature but will she see it in time or will they win out?
Episode 16: Voice:
As the Beasts continue attacking Jun's friends and associates, she continues to resist their advances in her mind. The team leaders decide that Jun is becoming too much of a liability and want her off the team. As her darker side grows stronger, it seems like only a matter of time before they have to put her down.
Episode 17: Hunger:
Jun's demon appetites advance as the Beast leader works on her mind and soul. The team is quickly coming to realize that she may need to be put down before they can no longer rely on her human nature to protect themselves from her.
Picture: The picture was presented in it's original full frame 1.33:1 ratio. As always, it was dark and moody-befitting it's theme.
Sound: The sound was presented with a 2.0 Dolby Digital English track and a similar Japanese track with English subtitles. Both tracks were well done and had few problems unrelated to source material.
Extras: The extras included original drawings, a clean open and close, the original trailer, some collector cards and some trailers for other ADV releases.
Final Thoughts: The show contained nudity and lots of violence so it's not for kids but as the story progressed, it gets better and better. That being the case, I'm upping my rating to Recommended but I hope a boxed set will be made available (at a lower price) once the final dvd (the next one) is released. If you're looking for a dark ride with somewhat limited animation, this is probably a good choice for you.
