Virtual Sexuality
Movie:
Virtual Sexuality is an English teenage sex comedy. Justine is a 17 year old virgin who dreams of meeting Mr. Right Bloke. Her friend Fran convinces her to wait till she meets the perfect guy, and she dreams about this constantly – planning out everything. One day, after she's stood up on a date, she goes to the virtual arcade, and is the test-subject for a new makeover machine. She then creates the perfect virtual guy, and just as she's about to save her creation, a huge explosion outside erupts, and she's morphed into the guy!
As a man, she discovers how men live (shaving, using the bathroom, not crossing their legs, etc) and spends time with the only guy she really knows, Chas, a geeky kind of guy that she used to have a crush on. However, "Hoover" the local teenage sexpot develops a thing for her (as a him) and she goes through all those experiences with being in lust. Sound weird? It only gets weirder from there…
Virtual Sexuality has its comedic moments, but it's not a movie that everyone will enjoy. Clearly the market for this film is 16-17 year old girls; those who could probably relate more to the female dilemmas of dating. Just as a warning, this movie contains full frontal male nudity (of several guys). So don't let your little children watch this.
Picture:
Virtual Sexuality is presented in 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen. I did see some shimmering (on the basketball court) but it was brief. The colors and scenery of London are great and look fantastic.
Sound:
You get a choice of Dolby Digital 5.1 or Dolby Surround 2.0, along with subtitles in English or Spanish. The soundtrack for the movie is great in 5.1, booming and thumping on occasion, and the movie itself does contain some surround.
Extras:
Extras include 28 chapter stops, a 2 minute cast video diary, a 7 minute featurette w/ interviews, and talent files. Also included are trailers for Go, Still Crazy, Can't Hardly Wait, and Virtual Sexuality. The cast video diary was a good idea – cast members would walk around and record their daily lives and interactions. However, at only two minutes long, it's a bit on the short side and even though the director mentions that everyone was given a camera to record different things, not too much is shown in the two minutes.
Summary:
Some parts of Virtual Sexuality were quite funny and enjoyable; others were just weird. Despite this, fans of teenage romantic comedies (like 10 Things I Hate About You or Drive Me Crazy) will probably enjoy Virtual Sexuality – just rent before you buy.
