Review:
Movie:
The Breaks is Mitch Mullany's (Derrick) feature film debut, having previously appeared in the sitcoms "Nick Fresno: Licensed Teacher" and "The Wayans Brothers." Derrick is an Irish white boy who was adopted and raised by a black family, after having fallen off a ship bound for America. Left home on Sunday to get milk for his family, Derrick is caught in the act with a woman he picked up from a club the previous night, when his family returns home after a near-accident on the way to church. His mother then kicks him out, but offers to take him back in if he's able to bring some milk home before dinner. Thus begins Derrick's often-hilarious quest, which includes several runs-in with the police, stumbling through a "kill whitey" meeting, chases/fights with a local drug dealer, and even being captured in a pawn shop by several gay men (ala Pulp Fiction). Other actors in the film include: Carl Anthony Payne II, Paula Jai Parker, Clifton Powell, Loretta Devine, George Clinton, and Gary Payton.

Picture:
The Breaks is enhanced for 16:9 televisions, and while no aspect ratio is specified, it looks to be 1.85:1. The flesh tones are accurate and colors are vibrant, with no flaws that I could detect.

Sound:
The Breaks is presented in Dolby Digital 2.0 Surround. The dialogue is crisp and clear, and the surround is very good, if a bit under used.

Extras:
The Breaks contains thirteen cast and crew bios, production notes, twenty-six chapter stops, interactive menus, and the theatrical trailer (in full frame).

Summary:
Artisan did a terrific job with this disc: the picture and sound are both excellent, with a few extras to boot. Fans of hip-hop comedies (Friday, Don't Be a Menaceā€¦) should definitely give The Breaks a spin, with its terrific cast and many hilarious moments.
