Christina Aguilera: Out Of The Bottle
List Price: Unknown [Buy now and save at Amazon]
The Movie:
The company that released this DVD (Music Video Distributors) had released a similar documentary about Britney Spears( Star Baby Scrapbook) - after seeing that documentary, I thought I'd take a look at what they had to offer here. I'm not a fan of either of the two singers, but the Spears documentary was so painfully, hilariously terrible that I was hoping that this would be similarly entertaining.
Starting off with a disclaimer that no music or performances will be included on this presentation, the documentary launches into the same unintentionally funny, completely amateurish production that obviously looks to be out to simply get a few bucks from fans of the singer. Unauthorized by the singer, the documentary revisits her past and talks with people from her hometown and who saw her early in her career. All of the interviews are fairly dopey, and the background music that is a variation of the singers is silly.
This company has done other unauthorized documentaries for other singers, and I can't imagine they'd be any better. For Spears and Aguilera fans, they'd be better off spending their money on official DVDs from the singers - Spears's Time Out With Britney Spears, or Aguilera's Genie Gets Her Wish. "Out Of The Bottle" might be worth a rental at most, if you're looking for a documentary that's silly enough to seem like something on Saturday Night Live.
The DVD
VIDEO/AUDIO: Some of the clips look better than others, but the majority of this presentation is a fairly hazy looking full-frame image that looks about the same as VHS quality. Colors are fairly subdued, and some sequences look grainy. Audio is similarly uninteresting. It's all interviews, they sound clear. The cheesy background music sounds fine, as well.
MENUS:: Basic menus, with a picture of the singer serving as the only background element of the main menu.
EXTRAS: A lame trivia game.
Final Thoughts: Skip it.
