The Aisle View: Rugrats Go Wild
Will the new Rugrats movie oust Disney/ Pixar as the best summer movie for kids? Not likely. " Rugrats Go Wild!" is a great movie for very small children; but, unlike "Finding Nemo," has little to offer anyone over the age of ten. Check out Megan Denny's full review in this week's The Aisle View. Also be sure to check out The Aisle View's take on Jet Lag, Spellbound, Finding NemoThe Italian Job. DVD Savant: The Pianist, Is Paris Burning?, Giant and Baba Yaga
This week the DVD Savant takes a look at Universal's The Pianist a film nothing short of a masterpiece. Roman Polanski carefully tempers his signature style, and produces the best dramatic document of the Holocaust yet seen. Warner's Giant a good special edition of the epic Texas saga, James Dean's third and last film. Fox's The Flight of the Phoenix another great picture, a male adventure tale of survival that forces a dozen uncooperative types to work together on an insane plan, Paramount's awesome Is Paris Burning? which tells a complicated historical story without cutting corners, Artisan's Cloak and Dagger a Fritz Lang spy film about Atomic secrets that had it's entire last scene censored (Savant has the full story), and Blue Underground gives the royal treatment to Baba Yaga, a weird attempt to convert an erotic Guido Crepax comic strip into an erotic comic book-like film. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.
