This week Silent DVD has a look at three Swedish silent movies from the influential director Mauritz Stiller: Sir Arne's Treasure (1919), Erotikon (1920), and The Saga of Gosta Berling (1924). This last movie was the film that made Greta Garbo into a star and also earned Stiller a contract with MGM. All three of the movies have been lovingly restored by the Swedish Film Institute and look wonderful. There also news on the third Treasures from American Film Archives collection as well as newly announced silent movies and the San Francisco Silent Film Festival.
