Silent DVD: The Films of Mauritz Stiller
This week Silent DVD has a look at three Swedish silent movies from the influential director Mauritz Stiller: Sir Arne's Treasure (1919), Erotikon (1920), and The Saga of Gosta Berling (1924). This last movie was the film that made Greta Garbo into a star and also earned Stiller a contract with MGM. All three of the movies have been lovingly restored by the Swedish Film Institute and look wonderful. There also news on the third Treasures from American Film Archives collection as well as newly announced silent movies and the San Francisco Silent Film Festival. Be sure to catch any previous installments that you may have missed, including the 2005 SF Silent Film Festival and the Harold Lloyd Comedy Collection.

DVD Savant: Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Earthquake and Modern Romance
This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews including: Baby Doll - Elia Kazan and Tennessee Williams team up for this wild and still racy drama of arrested development and Sicilian revenge in the New South; Lovers of the Arctic Circle - a creative, bizarre and beautifully realized Spanish love story about wild coincidences and strange intercrossed fates; Lemonade Joe - bizarro Czech musical western takeoff contains 1001 clever visual gags, but the transfer on view is inadequate; Earthquake - Charlton Heston toplines a cast of Angelenos reacting to a massive temblor; Modern Romance - Albert Brooks is both funny and frustrating as a terminally neurotic and infantile Hollywood film editor; Cat on a Hot Tin Roof - Both Liz Taylor and Paul Newman earned solid career boosts in this slick adaptation of yet another Pulitzer Prize-winning Tennessee Williams play. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.

DVD Talk Interview: Don Coscarelli - Masters of Horror
While best known for his four Phantasm films, Don Coscarelli's film career, which has been going strong since the seventies, has not been confined to a single genre. That being said, he is best known for his work in horror films and so he seemed a logical choice to contribute to Showtime's Masters Of Horror series [Read Reviews of the series DVDs here]. Don took the time out of his schedule to talk to DVD Talk's Ian Jane about projects past, present, and maybe even future (including a possible follow up to Bubba Hotep), as well as to shed some light on a few career highlights for us. Read our complete interview with Don Coscarelli.
