This Week's Notable Releases: Star Trek: The Compendium, Cotton Comes to Harlem, and Pumpkinhead
Another banner week for DVDs with the studios releasing some great films and boxed sets such as:
Star Trek: The Compendium [review] - whether you love or hate Abrams and company's take on the franchise, this four-disc set remains the best way to take everything in; Cotton Comes to Harlem [review] - A highpoint of blaxploitation and of 1970s action movies in general, this film is smart, rollicking crime picture that never takes itself too seriously even while it has very serious things to say; and Pumpkinhead [review] - a film that holds up well both as a monster movie and as a backwoods morality tale, deftly mixing supernatural elements with backwoods horror motifs in really interesting, effective ways.
Other reviews of note include Juggernaut [review], Fed Up [review], and Seizure [review].
