Technicolor Dreams and Black and White Nightmares Some great DVD and Blu-ray reviews have been added to the the DVD Talk Review Database recently including: Technicolor Dreams and Black and White Nightmares - Thunderbean has released a Blu-ray combo pack filled with rare, odd (in a good way) and wonderful cartoons... this is a must-buy for anyone who has the slightest interest in animation; The Mack Sennett Collection, Vol. One - this new Blu-ray set of 50 digitally restored classic films (includeing two features) illustrates that the film pioneer made a far more expansive range of screen comedy than is generally known; and Hal - The Movie - a genuinely inspired, heartfelt and original hard science-fiction story presented through some of the most breathtaking visuals to be seen in modern animation. Other recent reviews include: The Den, Bicycling with Moliere, and Mid-Century Modern Animation, Volume 1.  Visit the DVD Talk Review Database for all the latest reviews including an entire section devoted to reviews of DVDs out this week.

DVD Savant: High School Confidential, Man Hunt, and 7 Faces of Dr. Lao
High School Confidential! This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews and articles including: High School Confidential! - Jack Arnold and Albert Zugsmith concoct the ultimate juvenile delinquent shocker, with slick hepcat Russ Tamblyn angling to become the top drug pusher on campus; Man Hunt - Walter Pidgeon is the big game hunter who finds himself hunted by Nazi spies George Sanders and John Carradine; Joan Bennett is the sweet seamstress who protects him in the London Fog. Good action scenes and Fritz Lang's precise direction highlight this winning spy drama; and 7 Faces of Dr. Lao - George Pal confects a warm family story from Charles G. Finney's nihilistic original novel, but the result is too magical and charming to complain about. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.

Recent Reviews: Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla, Godzilla 2000, and Mothra
Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla It's Labor Day in America, and if your household is anything like mine, that means one thing: Japanese Giant Monster Movies! Check out these new releases of some classic films: Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla / Godzilla, Mothra, and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack - both movies are solid-to-fantastic entries into the Toho canon of Kaiju films, featuring brutal monster action that is sure to delight fans; Godzilla 2000 - the real draw here is the chance to get both the previously released U.S. edit of the movie alongside the Japanese cut of the film for the first time in this territory. As to the movie itself? It's a lot of fun; and Rebirth of Mothra / Rebirth of Mothra II / Rebirth of Mothra III - this collection includes the previously unreleased third film, which just so happens to be the best movie in the set.
