New Movie Reviews: The Drop, The Skeleton Twins, and The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby
The Drop Before you head off to the cinema this weekend, check out DVD Talk's reviews of the latest releases including: The Drop - a knotty crime drama with genuine twists and turns which should keep even the most jaded genre fan guessing all the way up to the end; The Skeleton Twins [a second review] - one of the top films of 2014... it's funny, sentimental, and exceedingly genuine; and The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby - if you're a true film lover, you'll give this romantic drama three hours of your day, and you'll be glad that you did. Other recent films include: The November Man, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, Guardians of the Galaxy, Lucy, A Most Wanted Man, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Boyhood, Transformers: Age of Extinction, Snowpiercer, Chef, 22 Jump Street, How to Train Your Dragon 2, Edge of Tomorrow, A Million Ways to Die in the West, X-Men: Days of Future Past. Check out these, and more, in DVDTalk's Theatrical Review section.

TV on DVD: The Goldbergs, The Midnight Special, and Gunsmoke
The Goldbergs: Season 1 More TV shows have made their way on to DVD and Blu-ray, and DVD Talk has got them covered. Check out our reviews of the newest TV releases including: The Goldbergs: Season 1 - this ‘80s nostalgia-bomb cuts the saccharine a bit with a family that fights constantly while loving each other, and with McLendon-Covey and Oswalt on board it's funny as well; The Midnight Special - with nearly 100 musical performances, the vast majority of which are terrific, well-known hits, this set offers a great deal of content for fans of ‘70s music; and Gunsmoke - The Tenth Season - Another terrific round of great Western drama, Gunsmoke's season volumes aren't cheap but they provide many hours of quality entertainment worth the price. Other shows recently reviewed include:  Sugarfoot: The Complete Third Season, Almost Human: The Complete Series, and Just Shoot Me - Season 1 & 2.  Want more?  Check out all of the TV on DVD reviews in the DVD Talk database.

DVD Savant: Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Queen Margot, and The Secret of Santa Vittoria
Captain America: The Winter Soldier This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews and articles including: Captain America: The Winter Soldier - the Mighty Marvel steamroller of quality comic-book adventures scores another big hit in this immense, lavishly produced tale of S.H.I.E.L.D. being subverted from within by an older conspiracy called HYDRA; Queen Margot - Isabelle Adjani stars in this monumental French epic about The St. Bartholomew Massacre, a super production that has everything -- a great (and true) story packed with intrigues and conspiracies, murders and double-crosses; and The Secret of Santa Vittoria -Stanley Kramer didn't make the grade with this expensive, old-fashioned comedy-drama set in an Italian village in WW2. He's got Anthony Quinn, Anna Magnani, Virna Lisi and Hardy Krüger, but his show and its characters look like something we've seen before. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.

This Week's Notable Releases: Star Trek: The Compendium, Cotton Comes to Harlem, and Pumpkinhead
Star Trek: The Compendium Another banner week for DVDs with the studios releasing some great films and boxed sets such as: Star Trek: The Compendium [review] - whether you love or hate Abrams and company's take on the franchise, this four-disc set remains the best way to take everything in; Cotton Comes to Harlem [review] - A highpoint of blaxploitation and of 1970s action movies in general, this film is smart, rollicking crime picture that never takes itself too seriously even while it has very serious things to say; and Pumpkinhead [review] - a film that holds up well both as a monster movie and as a backwoods morality tale, deftly mixing supernatural elements with backwoods horror motifs in really interesting, effective ways. Other reviews of note include Juggernaut [review], Fed Up [review], and Seizure [review]. Be sure to check out our DVD Talk Review Database for all the latest reviews including an entire section devoted to reviews of DVDs out this week.
