New Movie Reviews: A Walk Among the Tombstones, Kelly & Cal, and The Maze Runner
A Walk Among the Tombstones Planning a trip to the local multiplex this weekend? Here are DVD Talk's reviews of the latest theatrical releases: A Walk Among the Tombstones - Liam Neeson stars in this good private detective thriller that has a fair amount of smarts and more than enough bite; Kelly & Cal - this SXSW Gamechanger Award-winning feature captivates with its central themes and well-crafted characters; and The Maze Runner - this is director Wes Ball's feature debut... he clearly has an eye for visuals but while the set up is interesting it falls apart in the third act. Other recent films include: The Drop, The Skeleton Twins, The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby, The November Man, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, Guardians of the Galaxy, Lucy, A Most Wanted Man, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Boyhood, Transformers: Age of Extinction, Snowpiercer, Chef, 22 Jump Street, How to Train Your Dragon 2. Check out these, and more, in DVDTalk's Theatrical Review section.

DVD Savant: The Great Race, Distant Drums, and The Buddy Holly Story
The Great Race This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews and articles including: The Great Race - Blake Edwards' most lavish production takes Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon and Natalie Wood on an epic, around-the-world automobile race; Distant Drums - Raoul Walsh and Gary Cooper team up for this independently produced battle epic about the historic Seminole Wars. Forget Indian politics, as this 1951 costume thriller casts its Native Americans as enemies, plain and simple; and The Buddy Holly Story - this 1978 musical bio skates over the details but taps the essence of the great Buddy Holly, starting with Gary Busey's inspiring performance. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.

This Week's Notable Releases: Godzilla, Eraserhead, and The Party
Godzilla Another banner week for DVDs with the studios releasing some great films and boxed sets such as: Godzilla [review] - the world's most famous giant lizard still delivers sheer chaos and terror in spades...and whether you're a lifelong fan of The King of Monsters or not, it's still entertaining enough in the right mindset; Eraserhead [review] - certainly not for everyone, but if you can deal with the surreal and especially the creepy, it offers an experience you definitely haven't had before: dark, funny, disturbing and moving; and The Party [review] - a marvelous showcase for Peter Sellers... director Blake Edwards sets the actor loose to do what he does best: create elaborate situational slapstick. Other reviews of note include Big Operator [review], Short Eyes [review], and Burt's Buzz [review]. Be sure to check out our DVD Talk Review Database for all the latest reviews including an entire section devoted to reviews of DVDs out this week.

Recent Reviews: Man Hunt, Prom Night, and Only Lovers Left Alive
Man Hunt This week the DVD Talk Review Database has some great new entries, including a few discs you may have overlooked. Recent reviews include: Man Hunt - a terrific, tense thriller directed by Fritz Lang and Twilight Time's Blu-ray is superb, among the very best-looking high-def transfers of an early ‘40s Hollywood black-and-white movie; Prom Night - Paul Lynch's film was just one of the many slashers released in the wake of Halloween and is still an entertaining thriller; and Only Lovers Left Alive - director Jim Jarmusch creates a unique vampire film... one focusing not on blood-sucking, but how the burden of eternal life weighs on the film's protagonists. Other recent reviews include: A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Wrinkles, and The Moonshine War.  Visit the DVD Talk Review Database for all the latest reviews including an entire section devoted to reviews of DVDs out this week.
