New Movie Reviews: The November Man, Life of Crime, and What If
The November Man It'd be a good weekend to go to the movies. Here are DVDTalk's recent theatrical reviews: The November Man - Pierce Brosnan is a one-man Expendables team... and way better looking and a lot less broken down; Life of Crime -based on a Elmore Leonard book, this is a solid crime film with an excellent cast. Don't pass it by; and What If - basically When Harry Met Sally for the modern age, it's a hipster version of the late 80s masterpiece falling only just short of being perfection all on its own. Other recent films include: Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, Guardians of the Galaxy, Lucy, A Most Wanted Man, Magic in the Moonlight, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Boyhood, Transformers: Age of Extinction, Snowpiercer, Chef, 22 Jump Street, How to Train Your Dragon 2, The Signal, Edge of Tomorrow, Night Moves, A Million Ways to Die in the West, X-Men: Days of Future Past, Godzilla. Check out these, and more, in DVDTalk's Theatrical Review section.

DVD Savant: Testament, Arch of Triumph and Jacques Demy
Pickpocket This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews and articles including: Testament - Lynne Littman's chronicle of a small California town's experience in an atomic war is intensely emotional, and harrowing in a way few post-apocalyptic dramas can touch; Arch of Triumph - Lewis Milestone had great ingredients for this prewar thriller: stars Ingrid Bergman, Charles Boyer and Charles Laughton, and Erich Maria Remarque's tense, romantic story of undocumented refugees come to London to flee the grasp of Nazi Germany; and The Essential Jacques Demy - A marvelous collection of the intensely creative musical romances of Jacques Demy: Lola, Bay of Angels, The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, The Young Girls of Rochefort, Donkey Skin and Une chambre en ville. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.

This Week's Notable Releases: Legend of Hell House, On the Beach, and Hell of the Living Dead
Legend of Hell House There are a few new releases this week that you won't want to miss. Check out these hot titles: Legend of Hell House [review] - This is a classic film... it's almost flawless, with great performances, sets and effects, and a very effective script from Richard Matheson; On the Beach [review] - Stanley Kramer's post-apocalyptic film is still a shattering, completely engrossing and, sadly, timely cautionary tale; and Hell of the Living Dead/Rats Night of Terror [review] - Blue Underground dares pair two of shlockmeister extraordinaire Bruno Mattei's films on a single Blu-ray disc featuring a great-looking new HD transfers... what more could you want? Other reviews of note include What's New Pussycat? [review], Friendly Fire [review], and Welcome Back, Kotter: The Complete Series [review]. Be sure to check out our DVD Talk Review Database for all the latest reviews including an entire section devoted to reviews of DVDs out this week.

Recent Reviews: Muppets Most Wanted, Chaplin's Mutual Comedies, and Werner Herzog
Muppets Most Wanted Some cool discs have been reviewed over the past week. Check out these recent entries: Muppets Most Wanted - managing to avoid the pitfalls many film sequels encounter, this movie features great comedy, characters, adventure, and fun for the whole family to enjoy; Chaplin's Mutual Comedies - a bounty of delightful silent comedies in tip-top shape... these shorts show Chaplin simultaneously doing effortless, balletic physical comedy while working out the very language of filmic storytelling; and Herzog: The Collection - this is an overwhelming collection of 16 films, that range from good-to-classic (and nothing less), often complimented by entertaining and illuminating commentaries by the auteur himself. This is a giant, vital chunk of cinema history, all in one convenient collection. Other recent reviews include: The Wind Will Carry Us, Breakheart Pass, and Fed Up.  Visit the DVD Talk Review Database for all the latest reviews including an entire section devoted to reviews of DVDs out this week.
