One of the best (and weirdest) horror flicks of the year, Skinned Deep is a surrealist slasher that's both unique and deceptively familiar. Emerging Cinema Master: Kim Ki-Duk
Korean director Kim Ki-duk has been making some of the most consistently interesting and controversial films to come out of the South Korean cinema scene in quite some time. With an incredible range running from his most recent poetic and near dialog less The Bow and 3-Iron to the unflinchingly violent Coast Guard, The Isle Kim Ki-Duk has shown that great film makers can't be neatly bundled into a single genre or style. His take on relationships, love, hate, and theology may not always gel with your own but there's no denying how powerful some of his films are, and as his filmography grows, so too do his directorial skills. DVD Talk writer Ian Jane had a chance to interview Kim Ki-duk via email, and the result is an insightful look into a director who is truly an emerging cinema master.

The Blue Room: A Big Change is Coming
This month, adult entertainment is about to change in a big way and The Blue Room has a look at the DVDs which are going to help make that change. Many of the major adult studios have mounted (excuse the pun) large scale and big budget productions in an effort to win accolades, but more importantly win new viewers to the genre. These new films include everything from a pirate's film shot on the same ship as Pirates of the Caribbean (called appropriately enough Pirates), a sexy vampire thriller - Dark Angels 2, an avant garde/David Lynch like film from Michael Ninn - Catherine and one of the most eagerly awaited big budget adult films - The New Devil In Miss Jones featuring the queen of 'crossover' Jenna Jameson. If you've never explored the world of adult entertainment or it's been a while since you 'checked one out' this is the month you won't want to miss The Blue Room.

Also the latest round from the Universal Legacy Series: To Kill a Mockingbird - One of the country's favorite movies comes back in an edition combining old and new extras, The Sting - George Roy Hill reteamed with Newman and Redford for a smartly calculated thriller and The Deer Hunter - Michael Cimino's big prizewinner is a gloriously filmed and directed epic. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.
