New Movie Reviews: Superman Returns
Look, up in the sky! It's a bird! It's a plane! Nope, it's just the highly anticipated and long-awaited return of the Man of Steel to the big screen. After decades of false starts and trashed ideas, Superman Returns finally makes its way back into the hearts of people everywhere, and early word is that Director Bryan Singer has hit an absolute home run with his latest "superhero masterpiece." Reviews have been solid all around for the return of Supes, with Brian Orndorf even calling Superman Returns "one of the greatest films of 2006." Kate Bosworth, Kevin Spacey, and newcomer Brandon Routh help Singer breath life back into a widely-loved superhero that most people thought was (at least cinematically) dead. Superman Returns isn't just a heartfelt love letter to Richard Donner's original classic, but it's also a fantastic film and the biggest movie event of the summer. So what are you waiting for? Put on your red cape and get to a theater! As always, we invite you to share your thoughts on films in theaters in our Movie Talk Forum Area.

New Movie Reviews: Click and Waist Deep
The latest Adam Sandler comedy, Click, tells the story of workaholic architect Michael Newman (Sandler) and his discovery of a universally powerful remote control that allows him to fast-forward and rewind to different points in his life. Helmed by Sandler's Waterboy director, Click looks to capitalize on its funny script and strong supporting cast of Kate Beckinsale and the always-entertaining Christopher Walken. Also in theaters this week is Waist Deep - Tyrese Gibson stars as an ex-con risking his life after his son is kidnapped in a carjacking; The Road to Guantanamo - a striking film about four British Muslims imprisoned in Cuba after being accused of working for Al Quaeda; and Leonard Cohen: I'm Your Man - a documentary about the legendary singer-songwriter. She's toe to toe with Victor Mature and Laird Cregar in this oddball mix of murder, society comedy and weird musical choices; The Valerio Zurlini Box Set - NoShame gives us a pair of fine features from the beginning of the boom years in Italy, by the talented but less-celebrated Valerio Zurlini. New Movie Reviews: Nacho Libre, The Lake House, and The Fast & The Furious: Tokyo Drift
There's a little bit of something for everyone in the films opening wide this weekend. Jared Hess follows up his enormous cult-hit Napoleon Dynamite with the story of a unskilled cook at a Mexican monestary going under the mask as a Lucha Libre wrestler. Jack Black stars in Nacho Libre - easily one of the strangest comedies to come around in quite some time. Will Nacho... find the same cult following that Hess enjoyed with his previous film? I guess if we start seeing people wearing "Vote for Nacho" shirts, we'll have our answer. We also take a look at the dramatic re-teaming of Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock in The Lake House, where a mysterious mailbox becomes the conduit for two people sharing letters while living in the same house at completely different times. Sound confusing? Maybe, but it's delightfully so. Also in theaters this week is The Fast & The Furious: Tokyo Drift (third film in that particular series), the sequel to 2004's live action Garfield film, Garfield: A Tale of Two Kitties, and the crossword puzzle documentary Wordplay. Be sure to catch reviews of other recent Theatrical Films: Cars, The Omen (2006), The Break-Up, The Puffy Chair, Peaceful Warrior. As always, we invite you to share your thoughts on films in theaters in our Movie Talk Forum Area.

New Movie Reviews: The Puffy Chair, The Break-Up and Peaceful Warrior
If you are lucky enough to live in Austin, Boston, Portland, San Francisco, or Washington D.C then this weekend you have the opportunity to catch one of the most honest and fun movies of the year - The Puffy Chair. After winning over audiences at Sundance, SXSW and BendFilm this neo-relationship film finally gets its theatrical release it deserves. If The Puffy Chair isn't at a theater near you, the only real big release this week is Director Peyton Reed's The Break-Up with Vince Vaughn and Jennifer Aniston. Brian Orndorf finds a lot more to like about The Break-Up than just the film's laughs. Also opening, in limited release, this week is Peaceful Warrior - the latest from Director Victor Salva about a collegiate gymnast who finds a mentor in Nick Nolte, Surf School - a waste of time about some Laguna Beach highschoolers who want to win a surf contest, and Typhoon - a South Korean import about a North Korean pirate with a devious plan involving nuclear waste and a huge typhoon. Be sure to catch reviews of other recent Theatrical Films: X-Men: The Last Stand, An Inconvenient Truth, District B13, Over The Hedge, The Da Vinci Code, Mission: Impossible III, and Poseidon. As always, we invite you to share your thoughts on films in theaters in our Movie Talk Forum Area.

DVD Savant: John Ford Collection, Dirty Dozen and Bette Davis Collection 2
This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews including: The John Ford Film Collection - Warners just about cleans out the RKO and Turner vaults for John Ford gold; The Dirty Dozen - Robert Aldrich' all-male all-kill escapist war thriller is back in a better transfer and with some good extras in this 2-disc set; The Culpepper Cattle Company - Gary Grimes gets disabused of more than a few romantic notions about cowboys in this dusty but noisy cattle drive shoot-em up; The Bette Davis Collection Vol. 2 - She's back! Murder, Inc. - Peter Falk debuts in a big way as Abe Reles, head assassin for Lepke Buchalter's Brooklyn business doing the mob's dirty business; The Proud Ones - Marshal Robert Ryan would have no problem getting the nasty gamblers and snide killers out of Flat Rock, but he has this problem -- oddball spells of blindness whenever he gets into a life-threatening situation; The Longest Day - Fox finally corrects its old flat letterbox disc of this impressive overview of D-Day. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.
