DVD Savant: Saludos Amigos / Three Caballeros and Dangerous Crossing
Saludos Amigos / The Three Caballeros This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews including: Saludos Amigos / Three Caballeros - Disney pairs its two remarkable, tuneful WW2 "Good Neighbor Policy" animated classics in an economical bundle, but certain censorship issues remain unremedied, to put it mildly. Talking Yankee dogs can't smoke, as it's not a good lesson for the kiddies. But a Brazilian parrot can puff away ... at least in one of the features; Dangerous Crossing - Fox Film Noir reaches way down into the sack, and comes up with a thriller for fans of Jeanne Crain. A new husband disappears on the first day of an ocean voyage. Is some conspiracy afoot, or is the new bride just off her rocker? Also, don't miss his discussion of Joe Dante and Jon Davison's The Movie Orgy, a wild theatrical show that resurrects the once-in-a-lifetime, blink-and-you'll-miss-it fun of cult moviegoing. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.

DVDTalk Clip of the Week: The Tomorrow Show: John, Paul, Tom, And Ringo
The Tomorrow Show On April 25, 1975, John Lennon gave what was to be his last televised interview on "The Tomorrow Show With Tom Snyder." Speaking openly on the subjects of drug use, the breakup of the Beatles, and his immigration problems while seeking permanent residency in the U.S., the interview revealed he had tremendous humility and an affecting sense of humor. Shout! Factory's "The Tomorrow Show With Tom Snyder: John, Paul, Tom And Ringo" contains the complete interview with Lennon as rebroadcast on December 9, 1980, the day after he was shot while coming home from a recording session, along with interviews from that day with journalist Lisa Robinson and Lennon friend and producer Jack Douglas. This 2-DVD set also includes a 1981 interview with Ringo Starr, who discusses his film and music career, as well as remembrances of his band mate and friend John Lennon. There is also a 1979 interview with Paul and Linda McCartney, Denny Laine & Laurence Juber, from a stage in London, who were then enjoying huge success with Wings. Check out these clips of John Lennon discussing Beatlemania as well as Paul McCartney talking about those days and if he'd like to recapture them.

DVD Savant: Blast of Silence, Don't Drink the Water, and Bette Davis
Blast of Silence This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews including: Blast of Silence - Allen Baron's 1961 obscurity gets the jump on existential mob movies by several years, introducing a touch of art-movie poetics to a gritty B&W hit man saga. A major curiosity that's been on a lot of must-see lists for a long time; Don't Drink the Water - It didn't perform badly when it was new, but this utterly witless film adaptation of a Woody Allen stage hit is numbingly bad. Jackie Gleason and Estelle Parson's talents are buried in lame TV-movie setups and a terrible production. A surprise flop from a group of otherwise talented pros. ;The Bette Davis Collection, Vol. 3 - A third trip to the Bette Davis vault yields a couple of great pictures and some mid-range curiosities, and Davis makes them all highly entertaining: The Old Maid, All This and Heaven Too, The Great Lie, In This Our Life, Watch on the Rhine, Deception. A six-disc set loaded with featurettes, Bob Clampett cartoons and rare newsreel outtakes; and Sweeney Todd, The Demon Barber of Fleet Street -Tim Burton's blood-soaked adaptation retains the operatic quality of Stephen Sondheim's musical, if not the full range of its passions -- Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter are a low-key pair of fiends, and the dank London setting gives free rein to Burton's Victorian-Goth visuals. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.
