New Line Home Video has announced the DVD Release for About Schmidt starring Jack Nicholson and Kathy Bates (both nominated for Oscars for their work in the movie). DVDTalk writer Phillip Duncan recently had a chance to chat with writer / director Andrew Gurland about the upcoming DVD release of his feature Directorial debut Cheats. Gurland’s first achieved notoriety with his co-direction on the documentary Frat House which was never ultimately released (due to legal wranglings). Rather than take this as a defeat, Gurland realized that he had dealt with controversy all his life, starting in high school with a group of friends. They had essentially cheated their way through high school and when eventually caught. With that in mind, Gurland set about writing his first script which became the high school comedy / drama that Gurland himself likened to Goodfellas in high school.
