2003 A Year Full of Talk
Over the past year we did a lot of talking with Actors, Producers, and Directors all about DVD. Here are some of the most notable DVD Interviews which appeared on DVD Talk This Year: Survivor host and Director of the indie film Finder's Fee Jeff Probst, Sci-Fi Author Neil Gaiman on the miniseries Neverwhere, Director John Singleton on the special edition release of Boyz 'N The Hood, Rob Zombie on House of 1000 corpses, Spike Lee on 25th Hour, Actor Robert Forster on the indie film Diamond Men, Actor/Comedian Eddie Izzard on his concert film Circle, Finding Nemo's Austin Pendleton and Geoffrey Rush, legend R. Lee Ermey on his role in Willard and Mail Call, and Blade II/Hellby Director Guillermo Del Toro on his debut film Chronos. Find all these interviews and more in our DVD Interview Section.

This Week's Notable DVDs (12/30-1/6)
It's the last week of 2003, but the year isn't over just yet for notable DVDs including: S.W.A.T. [Review] - Colin Farrell, Samuel L. Jackson, Michelle Rodriquez and LL Cool J all deliver in a light but likeable action flick. If you're a fan of action films be sure not to miss So Close [Review] - think "Asian Charlie's Angels." All notable trilogies must come to an end, and in this case the only rings we're talking about are wedding rings in American Wedding: Unrated Extended Party Edition [Review] - while not as funny as the second "Pie", it does have a few strong laughs and is worth renting if you're a fan of the series. Another series winding its way down to the end is the ever popular: Sex and the City - The Complete Fifth Season [Reviews of Previous Seasons] a real treat for fans of the show. Finally, something completely different: Northfork [Review] - an unusual and stylized film with very fine performances, while not for everyone, it's a film worth checking out. Just Announced DVDs
2004 is already shaping up to be a great year for DVD and this week we've got another round of DVD announcements to get excited about: First up is City of God on 2/17 - a film which has made many of the nation's critic top ten lists this year, is up for a Golden Globe and almost assuredly an Oscar nomination in the best Foreign Film category. Paramount has announced School Of Rock on 3/2 [Review] including audio commentary with Jack Black and Director Richard Linklater, it should be a blast. New Line Home Entertainment has The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: 2 Disc Special Edition on 3/30 - this much talked about remake is now set to be a whopper of a DVD. Warner Bros. has The Chaplin Collection, Vol. 2 on 3/2 including the classic Chaplin films - City Lights, The Circus, The Kid, A King in New York, A Woman of Paris, Monsieur Verdoux and The Chaplin Revue. Finally, from Universal comes word of The Rundown on 3/23 -a fun summer action flick that was actually released in the fall. Read our complete list of Upcoming DVDs.

The Future of DVD - A Look Back
One of the major issues addressed in 2004 will be - what's next for DVD? In 2003 the stage was set for a massive format war over the next generation for DVD (HD-DVD). Earlier this year we attended the DVD in 50 Conference where we got a good look at the lay of the land for the future of DVD. In early January many of the players will be officially throwing their hat in the HD-DVD ring at CES (Consumer Electronic Show) including: Sony's Blue-Ray, Microsoft's Windows Media 9 and the DVD Forum's 'approved' format - Advanced Optical Disc 'AOD'. If you're interested in the future of DVD, then take a look back at this years landmark event.

Cinema Gotham: Top 10 New York Related DVDs
Cinema Gotham Top 10 DVDs of 2003 Another year goes by, another chance to look back. This year instead of the usual general top 10 we decided to do a Cinema Gotham top 10, which turned out to be tougher than we thought (We tried to find a local connection in The Two Towers but just couldn't do it.) Limiting the list to films that were covered here or that were about New York stories caused some tossing and turning and hemming and hawing. But ultimately you could do worse than the ten discs we came up with. From shorts to documentaries, classics and recent releases (plus Spike Lee's second number one finish in three years) it's been a wildly diverse year. Read Cinema Gotham's Top 10 DVDs of 2003 and don't miss The Official DVDTalk Top 20 DVDs of 2003
