DVD Savant: The Umbrellas of Cherbourg
This week The DVD Savant takes a look at: Cecil B. DeMille's The Greatest Show on Earth with Charlton Heston and Cornell Wilde, The Umbrellas of Cherbourg - Jacques Demy's unique operetta , Casa de los babys -John Sayles' story of six women waiting to adopt Latin American babies in a resort town, Meet Me in St. Louis - One of Judy Garland's best and Shame - one of the better war movies. This Week's Notable DVDs (4/6-4/13)
A fantastic week for DVD filled to the brim with notable releases including: Criterion exquisitely restored Charade [Review], Koch Lorber's fantastic Umbrellas of Cherbourg [Review] and The BBC's 2 disc special edition for A Room with a View:SE [Review]. A number of notable comedies find their way onto DVD this week including: Police Academy - All Seven Movie DVD Set, Cheaper By the Dozen [Review], Friends: Season 7, In Living Color - Season 1 [Review] and the comedic crown jewel The Pink Panther Film Collection [Review]. Just Announced DVDs

Adam Sandler's latest comedy 50 First Dates will find its way on DVD 6/15, complete with deleted scenes, a Blooper reel and Adam Sandler Commentary [Review]. Mel Brooks' Blazing Saddles gets a special edition re-release to celebrate its 30th anniversary on 6/29. Finally, fans of TV on DVD have a lot to look forward to with The Simpsons: The Complete Fourth Season on 6/15, South Park: The Complete Fourth Season, CSI: Miami - The Complete First Season and Wonder Woman: The Complete First Season - all on 6/29.
