DVD Savant: Das Boot - Uncut, The Line King and War With Iraq
This week The DVD Savant has reviews of War With Iraq: Stories from the Front - ABC news compiles ten mini-docus telling the stories of embedded newsmen through their own memories, The Line King: The Al Hirschfeld Story - A charming docu on the life and times of a delightful personality, the caricaturist who drew for the New York Times for almost 75 years, The Asphalt Jungle - Savant falls all over himself praising this top-notch noir suspenser, Das Boot: The Original Uncut Version -it's the entire 5-hour miniseries of the Wolfgang Petersen soggy saga, and in that form it's more of a good thing and Murder, My Sweet - Raymond Chandler's classic Philip Marlowe is one of the most iconic film noirs ever. An interesting mix of DVDs announced this week including: Taking Lives on 8/17 - this steamy thriller starring Angelina Jolie and Ethan Hawke gets even steamier with an unrated DVD release, Strangers On A Train: Special Edition on 9/7 - one of Alfred Hitchcock's best gets a 2 Disc restoration from Warner Bros. , The Punisher on 9/7 -Lion's Gate resurrects a classic comic inspired film franchise with a packed DVD, Elf on 11/16 - Jon Favreau's popular holiday film gets an Infinifilm release and it's sure to be a treat. Also Announced this week: Raising Victor Vargas: SE on 8/24, Laws Of Attraction on 8/24, Everwood: The Complete First Season on 9/7 and Ginger Snaps Back: The Beginning on 9/7. DVD Talk Interview: Paul Soles - The Original Spiderman
