This Week's Notable DVDs - Birth, Primer and Errol Flynn
An interesting mix of notable DVDs this week including: Primer [Review] - an 'indie' film in every sense of the word, this film takes a fresh look at time travel and the impact on relationships, Birth [Review] - Nicole Kidman at her best in a very deliberate, challenging and often creepy film, Errol Flynn Collection [Review] - the original action hero is back on a fantastic 5 film box set including a bonus 6 disc with a swashbuckling feature length documentary, Riding the Bullet [Review] - from e-book to DVD this Stephen King thriller has had a long journey, but nowhere near as long as the main character of the film, Miracles: The Complete Series [Review] - the stepchild of The Exorcist and X-Files this series never got a chance on TV and now in it's full 13 episodes it shines on DVD. Other notable DVDs this week include: Dynasty: S1, Hanzo: The Razor [Review] and House of Flying Daggers. DVD Talk Radio: Interview with Primer Director Shane Carruth
Writer/Director/Producer/Editor/Composer Shane Carruth did something as seemingly impossible as time travel - he made a great movie for only $7,000. Primer's micro budget and the 'questionable film making' advice from many of the people around him, never stood in the way of Carruth's drive to make his film. The results have been spectacular, Primer took both the Grand Jury Prize and the Alfred P. Sloan Feature Film Prize at the 2004 Sundance Film Festival and now has it's getting a special edition DVD release. DVD Talk Editor Geoffrey Kleinman sat down with Shane Carruth to talk about the DVD release for Primer. Carruth talks about what inspired him to make Primer, how he managed to make such a complex and interesting film with so little money and what the connection is between Primer and All The President's Men. Download the complete audio interview Shane Carruth or listen live online with our DVD Talk Radio Player. Also be sure to check out DVD Talk Radio for interviews and other great audio content including recent interviews with: James L. Brooks, Brett Ratner and Brad Bird.
