DVD Savant - Space Monster Dogora, Point Blank and Clash By Night
This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews including: Point Blank - John Boorman makes a gangland revenge tale with a cookbook from Antonioni; Sun Seekers - a first-hand look at Soviet-bloc propaganda, this gritty socialist epic about mining uranium for atom bombs is the flip side of American Cold War hysteria; Clash by Night - Fritz Lang and Clifford Odets dig into marital discord in the lower classes; Dillinger - this impoverished gangster movie isn't noir but has been included in Warners' boxed set; Avant-Garde: Experimental Cinema of the 1920s and '30s - Kino Video and Bret Wood collect 24 top short subjects of the experimental cinema era; The Good Father - Anthony Hopkins almost goes too far looking for revenge against the female of the species, in this thoughtful English drama; (Space Monster) Dogora - an enormous space amoeba descends from the clouds to loot the world of a precious resource in this obscure terror from Toho studios. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.

Movie Book Round-Up
We're excited to announce the launch of a new feature at DVD Talk Stuart's Movie Book Round-Up with DVD Talk writer and film historian Stuart Galbraith IV. In this installment of the Book Round-Up Stuart takes a look at Who the Hell's In It? by Peter Bogdanovich - although the director of The Last Picture Show, Saint Jack, and They All Laughed has of late been reduced to lurid TV biopics, as a writer Bogdanovich is still near the very top of an ever-growing heap; The John Wayne Filmography by Fred Landesman - expensive but handsomely done work offers meaty, alphabetized entries on the actor's 170+ films; Memoirs of a Film Cameraman: A Life Through the Lens by Alan Hume with Gareth Owen - cinematographer Hume's career is certainly worthy of a book length study; Foreign Films in America: A History by Kerry Segrave - a long-overdue subject for serious study, this work traces the history of foreign films in the American market, from the early silent era to the present day. Read Stuart's Movie Book Round-Up now.

With literally thousands of DVD Reviews (over 12,300 reviews!) in the DVD Talk Review Database it's easy to miss some of the notable reviews written by our staff. Recent DVD Reviews include: Undeclared - The Complete Series - an absolute joy of a TV series, full of painful memories, fond nostalgia, a warm-hearted sense of honest humor, and an almost palpable sense of sweetness; Slim Susie - a delirious mix of drugs, kinky sex, and a hefty dose of Scandinavian style off-beat action; Footballers' Wive$ - The Complete First Season - killer kitsch mixed with corrupt camp at its most memorable, a highly recommended romp; Drums Along the Mohawk - a magnificent film and among the handful that truly can be considered timeless; Vintage Mickey - who could have believed that one teeny little mouse on a steamboat would lead to an empire like Disney's; Alone in the Dark - so breathtakingly awful it may be one of the worst films made in the past few years.
