DVD Savant - Unfaithfully Yours, Twelve O'Clock High and The Longest Day
This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews including: Unfaithfully Yours - Preston Sturges hits the authentic funnybone in this diabolical black comedy about a zealous concert conductor who fantasizes murdering his wife, The Collected Shorts of Jan Svankmajer - creepy doesn't even begin to cover these utterly strange and often politically motivated animated shorts, Elephant Walk - this utterly goofy women's fantasy is also a fine showcase for Liz Taylor, Peter Finch and Dana Andrews, Night Moves - Arthur Penn's superb detective thriller features Gene Hackman in a terrific performance as a sleuth who can't bear self-examination, The Railroad Man - Pietro Germi stars and directs this excellent film about the problems of an Italian family, Georgy Girl - Lynn Redgrave is a loveable ugly duckling trying to cope in swinging London and two fantastic reissues from Fox: Twelve O'Clock High - one of the best films about World War II and The Longest Day - the original all-star account of D-Day, shot with four directors and thousands of extras. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.
