DVD Savant: Boudu Saved from Drowning, Swing Time, Borsalino & Co.
This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews including: Boudu Saved from Drowning - Jean Renoir's breezy fable takes exception to common notions of goodwill and gratitude; Follow the Fleet - this Fred & Ginger romp has plenty of great dancing but doesn't gel into romantic bliss; Story of a Prostitute - Seijun Suzuki makes another taboo subject into an exceptional film. Swing Time - George Stevens takes a spin with Astaire and Rogers; Shall We Dance -
Ballet star Astaire woos Broadway entertainer Rogers on a madcap ocean cruise; Borsalino and Co. -
Alain Delon presides over this violent sequel to the original gangster-chic Marseilles-based original film, a bloodbath of tommyguns and bloody vendettas. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.

Anime Talk: Samurai Gun, Kakurenbo and Anime Bargains

There is also Holly's Anime Bargains and our table of anime DVDs that are scheduled to be released in the next couple of weeks. Be sure to check out the capsule reviews of the latest anime releases too: The second volume of the outstanding Gunslinger Girl manages to avoid the "sophomore slump" that so many titles suffer from, Petite Princess Yucie ends on a bittersweet note, and Infinite Ryvius Volume 5 retells The Lord of the Flies. Not everything was good though. Peacemaker continues its fast decline with volume 6, and Mobile Suit Gundam Seed:
Movie 1: The Empty Battlefield turns an excellent series filled with political maneuvering into a disappointing series of flashy battle scenes. Read all the reviews to find out what's worth owning and what you should skip in this week's Anime Talk.
