DVD Savant: House on Haunted Hill, Empire Falls and Vincent & Theo
This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews including: Let's Go with Pancho Villa - This 1935 Mexican classic is a literate and action-filled story filmed less than twenty years after the actual events; A Guide for the Married Man - Gene Kelly directed this incredibly tasteless comedy; The Mysterious Lady - a film from the Garbo Silents collection; Garbo - Kevin Brownlow's docu of the life and career of Greta Garbo ; The Innocents - Jack Clayton's horror classic gets shoved in with the library product instead of given a Studio Classics nod of approval; Empire Falls - HBO's big-scale miniseries compresses three main plots and a dozen related subplots into three hours; Vincent & Theo - Robert Altman's biographical look at the brother's Van Gogh; House on Haunted Hill - Another colorized eyesore from Legend and Fox. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.

Grover Crisp on Restoring Sam Peckinpah's Major Dundee
On our latest episode of DVD Talk Radio, DVD Talk Editor Geoffrey Kleinman sits down at talks with Grover Crisp (Vice President of Asset Management and Film Restoration at Sony Pictures) - the person in charge of restoring Sam Peckinpah's classic film Major Dundee on to DVD. Major Dundee was one of Peckinpah's first major big budget studio films, and it was taken out of his hands and cut considerably by the studio. The film has now been restored to a longer extended version including many scenes which were considered 'lost'. We speak with Grover Crisp about the restoration of Major Dundee including the bold and impressive move to do a completely new and improved score for the film. Listen to our interview with Grover Crisp using our Online DVD Talk Radio Player or Download the complete interview with Grover Crisp (21 min 15MB). Also be sure to listen to our recent interviews on DVD Talk Radio with Harry Reems, Peter Weir, Chan-Wook Park, Frank Miller and Errol Morris.
