New Movie Reviews: Wicker Man, Crank, and This Film Is Not Yet Rated
Nicolas Cage takes a ride on the remake bandwagon by starring in The Wicker Man - Neil LaBute's take on one of the creepiest (and strangest) films of the 1970s. With a strong cast including Cage, Ellen Burstyn, and Leelee Sobieski, The Wicker Man may not be quite as odd and engaging as the original film, but still packs in some interesting moments. Also in theaters this week is Crank - Jason Statham is back in another adrenaline-filled actioner, this time playing a hit man with 24 hours to cure himself of a deadly poison; This Film Is Not Yet Rated - Kirby Dick's latest documentary is a fascinating investigation of the often mind-boggling decisions of the MPAA; and The Quiet - Jamie Babbit's first dramatic effort (starring Elisha Cuthbert and Camilla Belle) is "a smart thriller by people who realize that the scariest things in life are what we can do to each other." Be sure to catch reviews of other recent Theatrical Films: Lassie, Crossover, Trust the Man, Invincible, Beerfest, How To Eat Fried Worms, Bandidas, Snakes on a Plane, The Illusionist, Accepted, Factotum, World Trade Center, Material Girls, Step Up. As always, we invite you to share your thoughts on films in theaters in our Movie Talk Forum Area.

TV on DVD Reviews: Threshold, Survivor Palau, Invasion, and Sealab 2021
Some great TV on DVD releases reviewed this week including: Threshold - The Complete Series - a series chock full of potential (but unfortunately canceled) episodes seem to stand better on their own than as a complete series; Survivor Palau - The Complete Season - while not one of the very best of Survivor seasons it's still worth watching; Invasion - The Complete Series - with an extremely slow start (it takes 8 episodes to get going) its a show which rewards only the patient; Sealab 2021 - Season 4 - a series who had a great run, survived losing its lead character and helped make Cartoon Network's Adult Swim the phenomenon it is today; La Femme Nikita - The Complete Fourth Season - if you find Alias intriguing, 24 appealing, and like watching shows where the writing and mood are more important than car crashes or special effects, you're going to really enjoy this show. DVD Savant: This Island Earth, Hunger and Clean
This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews including: This Island Earth - Universal gives us an indifferent disc of an exciting science fiction favorite; Hunger Per Oscarssen shines in a fascinating film version of Knut Hamsun's 1890 classic about a starving artist too proud to ask for charity; Halloween: 25 Years of Terror - A feature-length docu from 2003 charts the success of the horror franchise begun by John Carpenter's original Michael Myers film; The Fifth Horseman is Fear - A famous (but largely forgotten) Czech film is a key Kafkaesque subversive mini classic; Ronald Reagan: The Signature Collection - Ronald Reagan's best films are here, along with a couple of popular pictures that show his strengths and weaknesses; Vicki - Jean Peters and Jeanne Crain star as sisters in a New York story of fame, glamour and murder; Clean - Maggie Cheung is the disgraced wife of a dead rock star, trying to clean up her act, start a career of her own and recover her son from father-in-law Nick Nolte. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.
