TV on DVD Reviews: Grosse Pointe, Wild Kingdom and Mad About You
A number of notable TV on DVD releases reviewed recently including: Grosse Pointe: The Complete Series - Brilliant but cancelled, if you missed Grosse Pointe during its painfully brief run on the WB it's worth discovering on DVD; Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom - The Definitive 50-Episode Collection - while not the strongest representation of the series it is strong enough to make it a worthwile addition to your vintage TV library; Great Cars Collection - The Television Series - an informative, entertaining look at the world's greatest cars; Mad About You - The Complete Third Season - a simple charmer of a series should warrant our highest rating but the DVD presentation is enough to make any reviewer just plain mad; Beauty and the Beast - The Complete First Season - a series to check out on DVD for the already converted. Visit the DVD Talk Review Database for all the latest reviews including an entire section devoted TV on DVD.

DVD Savant: Miracle in the Rain, Flags of Our Fathers and Rotation
This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews including: Flags of Our Fathers - Clint Eastwood contrasts combat reality with PR glory in this look at Iwo Jima from the Allied side of the equation; Miracle in the Rain - Ben Hecht's sentimental tale of a miraculous reunion for wartime lovers should be ridiculous, but excellent writing and handling turn it into an affecting gem; Rotation - This chilling East German propaganda film tells the story of the Third Reich from the POV of greedy I.G. Farben industrialists ... that collaborate and conspire with The Standard Oil Company straight through the 2nd World War. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.

New DVD Reviews: The Quiet, This Film is Not Yet Rated and Viva Pedro
With over 18,300 DVD reviews in the DVD Talk Review Database, it's easy to overlook some of the great reviews. Recent DVD Reviews include: The Quiet - whispers its way under a viewer's skin, laying out a tragic family situation and the damaged players trapped inside it; This Film is Not Yet Rated - one of 2006's most scathing documentaries, and that's exactly what makes it all the more entertaining; Viva Pedro - The Almodovar Collection - a must-own collection worthy of DVD Talk's highest rating; Eve and The Friehorse - Julia Kwan's introductory feature-length triumph is filmed with grace, heart, and subtle beauty; Seven Swords - a decent edition into a long cannon of heroic swordplay films; Shinobi - Heart Under Blade - an interesting cocktail of numerous established genres, this film delivers a blend of many elements in one slick package. Clip of The Week: Hostage & Fratricide
This week we have several clips from two new Koch Lorber DVDs. Inspired by a real-life bus hijacking in Northern Greece, Constantine Giannaris' Hostage [view trailer] is a critically-acclaimed nail-biter leading to a shocking and dramatic conclusion. Enjoy these clips from Hostage: Panic and confusion, Elion's demands and Promises. Also arriving on DVD is Fratricide [view trailer], the 2006 U.S. theatrical release from controversial director Yilmaz Arslan about the brutal cycle of violence that erupts between four exiles in Germany. Watch these graphic clips from Fratricide with caution: I'm not your brother, Bloodshed and gore and Retribution. Be sure to catch past week's clips at DVD Talk TV.

New HD DVD and Blu-Ray Reviews: Running With Scissors, The Sting and Lady in The Water
DVD Talk has an extensive team of reviewers covering all the HD DVD and Blu-Ray Disc Releases. We've got more HD DVD and Blu-Ray Disc Reviews than almost anywhere else and a commitment to cover 100% of the titles released in both formats. This week we have a number of new HD DVD and Blu-Ray Disc Reviews. For HD DVD we have reviews of: The Mummy & The Mummy Returns - Universal's modern monster franchise comes packed with a good set of supplements on HD, The Sting - a classic movie that still oozes charm even more than three decades after taking home an armful of statuettes at the Academy Awards, Lady in The Water - M. Night Shyamalan's latest film misses the mark and the HD DVD isn't all that different than the DVD. For Blu Ray we have reviews of: Running With Scissors - an odd portrait of an extremely odd family presented well on Blu-Ray, Kung Fu Hustle - a very entertaining martial arts comedy with pretty good picture and sound quality, Employee of the Month - the proverbial 'Rental' this so-so comedy is presented well on Blu-Ray.
