DVD Savant: Kiss Me, Stupid, The Wild Angels, and Lust for Life
This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews and articles including: Kiss Me, Stupid - Billy Wilder fell afoul of the Catholic Legion of Decency with this smutty fairy tale about a wife and a hooker trading places -- and discovering new truths about their narrow roles as women; The Wild Angels - Roger Corman goes wild and takes risks with this fairly respectable tale of the outlaw Hell's Angels biker gang of Venice, California; and Lust for Life - Vincente Minnelli and John Houseman drench this tale of that old psycho-genius Vincent Van Gogh with terrific production values -- perfect period déor, European locations and careful images of original paintings borrowed from museums and collectors.
Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.

This week several great movies are coming out, including a few that shouldn't be missed:
Game of Thrones: Season 4 [Blu-ray review, DVD review] - the events that transpires across these ten episodes ends up being some of the most rewarding and sharply-crafted yet from HBO's show; Life Itself [review] - Steve James adapts longtime Chicago film critic Roger Ebert's memoir into an excellent documentary that is a fitting tribute to the man; and Beach Blanket Bingo [review] - the best of the Beach Party movie lot and a welcome addition to Blu-ray.
Other reviews of note include: The Homesman [review], An Autumn Afternoon: Criterion Collection [review], and How to Murder Your Wife [review].

Recent Reviews: The Road to Hong Kong, The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant, and Middle of Nowhere
This week the DVD Talk Review Database has some great new entries, including a few discs you may have overlooked.
Recent reviews include:
The Road to Hong Kong - Great fun, and much better than its reputation, this film is loaded with laughs and looks great on Blu-ray; The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant: Criterion Collection - a lonely, manipulative fashion designer has locked herself away and, by doing so, draws others into her orbit of despair... a most colorful and intimate portrait of heartbreak and self-immolation; and The World Made Straight - a coming-of-age drama set during the Civil War and rumination on Southern tradition, this film is buoyed by strong direction and performances from its key cast, with country singer Steve Earle stealing the show.
Other recent reviews include: Force Majeure, Demon's Rook, and Nas: Time is Illmatic. Visit the DVD Talk Review Database for all the latest reviews including an entire section devoted to reviews of DVDs out this week.
