TV on DVD: The Knick, Around The World With Orson Welles, and Banksy Does New York
The Knick: The Complete First Season Interested in the latest TV on DVD reviews? DVD Talk has you covered! This week's notable entries include: The Knick: The Complete First Season - Steven Soderbergh's HBO drama is a compelling show to watch and the discs look and sound fantastic; Around The World With Orson Welles: The Complete Series - a beguiling piece of filmmaking that constantly seems at imminent risk of unraveling completely, yet Welles's on-the-fly genius keeps his audience enthralled regardless; and Banksy Does New York - a film that documents the elusive British street artist's month-long residency in New York, secretly executing an artwork around the city on each day of October 2013. Want more?  Check out all of the TV on DVD reviews in the DVD Talk database.

DVD Savant: The Andromeda Strain, Message from Hiroshima, and Our Mother's House
The Andromeda Strain This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews and articles including: The Andromeda Strain - Michael Crichton's debut technothriller is packed with narrative problems, only partly solved -- it's a movie made 80% of technical exposition, and it's still fascinating; Message from Hiroshima - a former resident of Hiroshima constructs an ode to the memory of what was destroyed; and Our Mother's House - This oddball thriller has a gothic - Dickensian feel but comes off as a horror subject with only a bit of horror. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.

This Week's Notable Releases: I Am Big Bird: The Caroll Spinney Story, The French Lieutenant's Woman, and The People Under The Stairs
I Am Big Bird: The Caroll Spinney Story Another banner week for DVDs with the studios releasing some great films and boxed sets such as: I Am Big Bird: The Caroll Spinney Story [review] - extremely compelling from start to finish... Caroll Spinney's long, illustrious career and interesting personal life provide ample fodder for this feature-length documentary; The French Lieutenant's Woman: Criterion Collection [review] - a sumptuous coffee table book of a movie staring Jeremy Irons and an astonishing Meryl Streep as clandestine lovers; and The People Under The Stairs: Collector's Edition [review] - Wes Craven's 1991 film is an extremely dark comedy with plenty of satirical jabs for good measure. Other reviews of note include: The Monster that Challenged the World [review], Soaked In Bleach [review], and War-Gods of the Deep [review]. Be sure to check out our DVD Talk Review Database for all the latest reviews including an entire section devoted to reviews of DVDs out this week.

Recent Reviews: Night and the City, Innerspace, and Kikujiro
Night and the City: The Criterion Collection Our reviewers have been busy this week, filling the DVD Talk Review Database more great entries. Some new reviews of note include:: Night and the City: The Criterion Collection - this story of a man's winding and ill-fated journey into the crooked world of wrestling is a quintessential entry in the film noir genre and the restoration is gorgeous; Innerspace - one of Joe Dante's most entertaining films, a silly but sweet concoction featuring a top-notch cast and dazzling special effects; and Kikujiro - writer/director Takeshi Kitano crafted one his best films with this charming and offbeat comedy-drama. Other recent reviews include: Psycho Beach Party, Love Unto Death / Life Is a Bed of Roses, and Stray Cat Rock.  Visit the DVD Talk Review Database for all the latest reviews including an entire section devoted to reviews of DVDs out this week.
