Movies in Theaters: Straight Outta Compton, Mission: Impossible, and Jurassic World
Straight Outta Compton With the summer winding down, now is a good time to take a look at some of the best releases of the season that are still in theaters: Straight Outta Compton - this docudrama about the rap group N.W.A. is entertainment above all, combining awesome songs, a fascinating time, cool characters; Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation - Tom Cruise returns for the fourth film in the franchise, and this one is the best yet; and Jurassic World - the film captures the capital-letter thrills of the original... a pure, preserved strain of blockbuster movie spectacle. Other recent films include: Mad Max: Fury Road , The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, and Inside Out. Check out these, and more, in DVDTalk's Theatrical Review section.

TV on DVD: Orphan Black, I Love Lucy, and Maude
Orphan Black: Season 3 Some great TV shows have made their way onto DVD recently including: Orphan Black: Season 3 - though the show lacks a symbolic or even tangible antagonist in this season, it may be the best one yet; I Love Lucy: The Ultimate Season 2 -another terrific package of material almost perfectly presented; and Maude: The Complete Second Season - after all these years the show is still hilarious and the social commentary still retains its potency. DVD Savant: It Follows, Jamaica Inn, and A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night
It Follows The DVD Savant has been having technical issues connecting to DVD Talk's servers this week. While we're working out the glitches, take a look at these a highlight from the past few months: It Follows - this shocker delivers the goods with no excuses... it's great, quality filmmaking as well; Jamaica Inn - a pristine copy of a vintage Hitchcock film about a gang of swarthy Cornwall pirates that wreck cargo ships and murder their crews for profit; and A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night - Iranian-American writer-director Ana Lily Amirpour pours on the style and attitude, with this tale of an Iranian vampire and comes up with a highly personal, mysteriously likeable genre hybrid; Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.

This Week's Notable Releases: Walt Disney Animation Studios Shorts, Batman Unlimited, and Navajo Joe
Walt Disney Animation Studios Short Films Collection This week several great movies are coming out, including a few that shouldn't be missed: Walt Disney Animation Studios Short Films Collection [review] - there's enough pure artistry in here to make this worth owning for any animation fan, while kids will no doubt want to get their hands on the Frozen follow-up for many repeat viewings; Batman Unlimited: Monster Mayhem [review] - this movie is so. much. fun. It's pretty much just one "oh, wow!" after another: from its lengthy, masterfully staged, adrenaline-pumping action sequences to the wildly imaginative ways it plays with (and against!) its futuristic tech; and Navajo Joe [review] - an above-average spaghetti Western that is netter than its reputation and presented in a fine transfer. Other reviews of note include: Diggstown [review], Psycho Beach Party [review], and Strangerland [review]. Be sure to check out our DVD Talk Review Database for all the latest reviews including an entire section devoted to reviews of DVDs out this week.

Recent Reviews: Gangs Of Wasseypur (Part I & II), House of the Long Shadows and I Am Chris Farley
Gangs Of Wasseypur (Part I & II) Our reviewers have been busy this week, filling the DVD Talk Review Database more great entries. Some new reviews of note include: Gangs Of Wasseypur (Part I & II) - a compulsively watchable five-and-a-half-hour epic from, India, the movies capture the gravitas and grandeur of American gangster epics while fictionalizing a decades-spanning crime family feud; House of the Long Shadows - Kino, as part of their ongoing Studio Classics Line, have rolled out the red carpet on director Pete Walker's horror/comedy film that features an all-star line up; and I Am Chris Farley - an eyeopening documentary that explores the darker times of the comedian's brief life but also does a fine job of tell his overall story as well... a fitting tribute to a complicated soul. Other recent reviews include: Places in the Heart, Far From the Madding Crowd, and Troma's War.  Visit the DVD Talk Review Database for all the latest reviews including an entire section devoted to reviews of DVDs out this week.
