TV on DVD: Star Trek: The Animated Series, Chicago Fire, and The Tonight Show
Star Trek: The Animated Series TV on DVD and Blu-ray remains very popular with more and more favorites being released. New TV reviews include: Star Trek: The Animated Series - featuring most of the Enterprise crew voicing their characters plus members of the original series' writing and production team, this is an imaginative collection of episodes with less constraints than the live-action material; Chicago Fire: Season Four - the program remains interesting but is already starting to feel a little tired with storylines from its first three years reworked with minor variations; and The Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson - The Vault Series - a dozen somewhat-randomly-selected yet uncut episodes from the ‘70s, these programs show the master conversationalist at work with a wide variety of stars. Recent Notable Releases: Finding Dory, Dead Ringers, and Punch-Drunk Love
Finding Dory Several great movies and programs have come out recently, including a few that shouldn't be missed: Finding Dory - a technically stunning production that plays it safe and should entertain fans of the original with a reliably good mixture of comedy and emotional moments; Dead Ringers: Collector's Edition - one of David Cronenberg's best films, the polarizing movie is an uncomfortable but compelling examination of twin brothers spiraling out of control; and Punch-Drunk Love - Paul Thomas Anderson directs this scrappy, little, oft-misunderstood collection of visuals, sounds and emotion that coalesces into something touching and oddly romantic. New Reviews: Independence Day: Resurgence, Lone Wolf And Cub, and C.H.U.D.
Independence Day: Resurgence 3D Our reviewers have been busy this week, filling the DVD Talk Review Database more great entries. Some new reviews of note include: Independence Day: Resurgence 3D - Fox's 3D Blu-ray offers a pretty spectacular presentation of the movie, which adds to the scope and scale of the feature; Lone Wolf And Cub: Criterion Collection - this film series isn't exactly high art, but its poetic violence and colorful characters are insanely entertaining; and C.H.U.D. - this holds up well as a really fun horror movie... we get a solid cast, a neat premise, some excellent location photography and some genuinely cool monsters.
