Movies in Theaters: Arrival, Hacksaw Ridge, and Elle
Arrival Before you head off to the cinema this weekend, check out DVD Talk's reviews of the latest releases including: Arrival [a second review] - remarkable filmmaking... a big budget mainstream Hollywood release with the passion and creativity of a plucky little indie; Hacksaw Ridge [a second review] - Mel Gibson's latest directorial effort is a movie that delivers on its promises, and deserves your time; and Elle - director Paul Verhoeven successfully blends differing tones together rather well in this film, but it goes a bit too far off the rails in the third act. Other recent films include: Doctor Strange, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, The Handmaiden, The Girl on the Train, Deepwater Horizon, and The Birth of a Nation. Check out these, and more, in DVDTalk's Theatrical Review section.

TV on DVD: Miami Vice, Girlfriend Experience, and American Horror Story: Hotel
Miami Vice - The Complete Series Some great TV shows have made their way onto home video recently including: Miami Vice - The Complete Series - this show holds up well... the series finds the right balance of style and substance and it features great work from the two leads and a killer supporting cast; Girlfriend Experience: Season One - Amy Seimetz and Lodge Kerrigan do a fantastic job with the appropriate levels of depth in this character study; and American Horror Story: Hotel - a reliable macabre-themed staple this fifth season of the show, broadens its focus a bit, drawing together vampires and mass-murderers and other supernatural entities into a surreal melting pot: a multi-floor building comprised of timeless, moody art-deco accouterments. Recent Notable Releases: Boyhood, I Wake Up Screaming, and Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders
Boyhood: The Criterion Collection Some pretty cool discs have made their way to store shelves over the past couple of weeks. Check out these new titles: Boyhood: The Criterion Collection - Richard Linklater's keyhole glimpse at a brother and sister caught between divorced parents gives a fly-on-the-wall view of exactly what shapes a person into who they'll ultimately become; I Wake Up Screaming - this film noir is an engaging thriller and a wildly effective whodunnit... its twists are unexpected yet well-earned; and Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders - this the new animated feature is clearly geared towards those with a love for the old sixties television series... if you find yourself in that group, odds are pretty good that you'll get a big kick out of this. Be sure to check out our DVD Talk Review Database for all the latest reviews including an entire section devoted to reviews of DVDs out this week.

New Reviews: Eye of the Needle, The Fake, and Hush... Hush, Sweet Charlotte
Eye of the Needle This week the DVD Talk Review Database has some great new entries, including a few discs you may have overlooked. Recent reviews include: Eye of the Needle - a pretty efficient and intense thriller, with some really spectacular work in the final chase sequence; The Fake (2013) - a cynical animated tale of a con man who uses religion to fleece a poor town of its meager savings and the self-interested jerk who intends to make him pay; and Hush... Hush, Sweet Charlotte - this black-and-white Southern Gothic potboiler from 1964 is smoothly paced and assuredly directed by Robert Aldrich, and sumptuously shot by Joseph Biroc. Visit the DVD Talk Review Database for all the latest reviews including an entire section devoted to reviews of DVDs out this week.
