Split Check out DVD Talk's latest reviews of movies that are in theatrical release. This week's crop includes: Split [a second review] - as hard as it might be to beleive, director M. Night Shyamalan is back with a vengeance with this psychological thriller hinged on kidnappings and multiple personality disorder; Gold - director Stephen Gaghan and joins with actor Matthew McConaughey in this story of greed and the life of a career salesman made enjoyable by the vibrant talent who inhabits the star role; and Patriots Day - Peter Berg & Mark Wahlberg reunite again to tell the real events leading up to, during, and following the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing. Other recent films include: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, La La Land, Passengers, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Manchester by the Sea, Things to Come, and Arrival. Check out these, and more, in DVDTalk's Theatrical Review section.

TV on DVD: Hairspray Live! and True New York
Hairspray Live! TV on DVD and Blu-ray remains very popular with more and more favorites being released. New TV reviews include: Hairspray Live! - this production of the play (based on the 1988 John Waters film) is entertaining enough and it is impressive that the cast was able to perform it all live in real time; and True New York - this set of five short documentaries is a real find: a thoughtfully assembled collection of well-crafted character studies that are warm and humane, showing some of the real folks who make New York the city that it is. Notable Releases: Pinocchio, Bells Are Ringing, and Lair Of The White Worm
Pinocchio There are a few new releases this week that you won't want to miss. Check out these hot titles: Pinocchio - it's hard to deny that this film is one of the finest pieces of animated art ever to come out of Disney, and it maintains its entertainment value across generations; Bells Are Ringing - the bright and wonderful lead performance by Judy Holliday, coupled with Dean Martin as her suavely self-deprecating love interest, should be enticement enough to check this out; and Lair Of The White Worm - director Ken Russell has fun with his witty and creative take on the last story by author Bram Stoker. Be sure to check out our DVD Talk Review Database for all the latest reviews including an entire section devoted to reviews of DVDs out this week.
