New Movie Reviews: Blades of Glory, Lookout, and Meet the Robinsons
Will Ferrell and Napoleon Dynamite Jon Heder strap on the spandex for the ice-skating comedy Blades of Glory. The fantastic Amy Poehler also joins the cast, but the real question here is if Heder can ever leave that Dynamite character behind him. I guess we shall see as the surprisingly funny Blades of Glory opens wide this weekend. Also in theaters this week is The Lookout - Screenwriter Scott Frank makes his directorial debut with this crafty heist thriller; Meet the Robinsons - the Mouse House tries to prove they can stay afloat without the help of Pixar; and First Snow - Guy Pearce and Piper Perabo star in this indie thriller about a psychic's chilling prediction. Be sure to catch reviews of other recent Theatrical Films: Live Free or Die, Highlander: The Source, Reign Over Me, Pride, TMNT, Shooter, The Hills Have Eyes 2, The Last Mimzy, Boy Culture, Air Guitar Nation, Dead Silence, Premonition, I Think I Love My Wife, Tortilla Heaven, Finding Kraftland, Starter for 10, 300, The Host. As always, we invite you to share your thoughts on films in theaters in our Movie Talk Forum Area.

Longbaugh Film Festival
If you are in Portland, Oregon or even in the remote vicinity of Portland, this weekend you've got to get down to the Longbaugh Film Festival. Run by DVD Talk contributor David Walker, this truly independent film festival features some of the best films that aren't on your radar screen. The opening night film of the festival Darius Goes West is the kind of brilliant documentary that you'll be telling people to run and see. Other festival highlights include: Commit - an extremely well written piece that shows just how much you can do with a movie completely focused on two people; Everything's Gone Green - noted author Douglas Copleand (Generation X, Microserfs, Jpod) writes the screenplay for a quirky and beautiful film that is sure to find its way into the spotlight; Pezheads - a documentary looking at the obsessiveness of collectors of those little candy dispensers; Room 314 - when you combine great acting with great writing and add solid directing you get a great film no matter what the budget. Also if you have kids, be sure to check out the Lil' Longbaugh program with foreign and indie films just for kids. Truly independent film fests are becoming an endangered species, so we're happy to give our support to Longbaugh.

Also in theaters this week is Black Snake Moan - Craig Brewer follows up his critical darling, Hustle & Flow, with this sultry grimefest (and we mean that in the best possible way) starring Samuel L. Jackson and Christina Ricci; Wild Hogs - Tim Allen, John Travolta, and Martin Lawrence star in this silly (and surprisingly funny) little flick; and Days of Glory (Indigenes) - Rachid Bouchareb's engaging and emotional WWII tale. Be sure to catch reviews of other recent Theatrical Films: Full of It, The Number 23, Reno 911!: Miami, The Astronaut Farmer, Amazing Grace, Ghost Rider, Bridge to Terabithia, Breach, Music and Lyrics. As always, we invite you to share your thoughts on films in theaters in our Movie Talk Forum Area.
