Recent Notable Releases: Black Panther, Gladiator, and Buckaroo Banzai
Black Panther (4K UHD) Several great movies and programs have come out recently, including a few that shouldn't be missed: Black Panther (4K UHD) - Marvel’s latest blockbuster to make its way to home video is well worth picking up… the 4K disc boasts a truly spectacular visual presentation and every last one of its extras is worth setting aside the time to explore; Gladiator (4K UHD) - Ridley Scott’s Academy Award winning film holds up well… the pacing of the film is marvelous, the cinematography is great, and the action is worth the price of admission alone; and The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension (Collector's Edition Steelbook) - a considerably entertaining concoction of science fiction, action and humor, Shout! Factory's steelbook release is identical to their earlier, excellent, Blu-ray release . New Reviews: Manhandled, The Color of Pomegranates, and Legend of the Mountain
Manhandled Some cool discs have been reviewed over the past week. Check out these recent entries: Manhandled - Gloria Swanson dazzles in this silent comedy-drama about a young woman looking for a taste of the good life, who ends up biting off more than she can chew; The Color of Pomegranates - a visual triumph and rich abstract exploration into the art and history of Armenian poet and musician Sayat-Nova... the fantastic technical presentation and bountiful extras make this release a must-own; and Legend of the Mountain - a true epic, a wonderful mix of fantasy/horror and martial arts that benefits from a strong cast, beautiful location photography and impressive production values. TV Reviews: The Americans, The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and PAW Patrol
The Americans: Season 5 Some great TV shows have made their way onto home video recently including: The Americans: Season 5 - an emotionally gripping show with compelling performances from a talented ensemble… it is among the best shows running; The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame: In Concert - this set presents four nearly complete ceremonies from 2014-17… there's obviously no shortage of talent featured during these shows, which covers a wide net of at least two or three generations of music; and PAW Patrol: Summer Rescues - the program is quite anarchic for a network show especially back in the 1960’s, with a rotating comedy troupe delivering jokes and sketches at a very rapid-fire pace. Recent Notable Releases: Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, The Sacrifice, and Gun Crazy
Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure - Limited Edition Steelbook Several great movies and programs have come out recently, including a few that shouldn't be missed: Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure - Limited Edition Steelbook - a lightweight but durable little romp through time that sits right between clever sci-fi and self-aware stoner comedy; The Sacrifice: Special Edition - Andrei Tarkovsky's swan song is a tough nut to crack and requires a lot of patience to appreciate… but there are jaw-dropping images and unforgettable pieces of music that lingers in the memory for quite a long time afterwards; and Gun Crazy - a seminal and influential film noir, the movie finally makes its way to Blu-ray with a spectacular presentation, a remarkable audio commentary, and a rewarding feature-length documentary. New Reviews: Batman Ninja, Paddington 2, and Bombshell
Batman Ninja Our reviewers have been busy this week, filling the DVD Talk Review Database more great entries. Some new reviews of note include: Batman Ninja - any Batman fanatic with even a little bit of a taste for the adventurous really ought to seek it out though there is nothing the least bit traditional about this unapologetically ridiculous, deliriously over-the-top spin on the Dark Knight; Paddington 2 - easily matches the enjoyment level of the first film, and possibly surpasses it with the performances of Brendan Gleeson and Hugh Grant; and Bombshell - Alexandra Dean's documentary on actress Hedy Lamarr focuses not only on her screen career, but also the fact that she was a talented inventor. Be sure to check out our DVD Talk Review Database for all the latest reviews including an entire section devoted to reviews of DVDs out this week.

Recent Notable Releases: Moonrise, Seven, and The Half Breed
Moonrise: Criterion Collection Some pretty cool discs have made their way to store shelves over the past couple of weeks. Check out these new titles: Moonrise: Criterion Collection - Frank Borzage's film is a deeply effective "anti-noir" featuring two powerhouse lead performances that carry most of the emotional weight; Seven - a ridiculously entertaining B-grade action film with a fun cast, crazy characters, memorable set pieces and beautiful location photography; and The Half Breed / The Good Bad Man - a pair of westerns featuring silent superstar Douglas Fairbanks…the restoration work that has been done to revive them is admirable, and the supplements nicely round out this whole package. New Reviews: The Post, Underworld U.S.A., and Grease
The Post This week the DVD Talk Review Database has some great new entries, including a few discs you may have overlooked. Recent reviews include: The Post - Steven Spielberg's story of The Pentagon Papers uses the old formula of the newspaper melodrama to tell a true story of Ethics versus Expedience; Underworld U.S.A. - writer-director-producer Samuel Fuller’s 1961 movie is a throwback to Warner Bros.' gangster movies of the 1930s, with star Cliff Robertson playing a two-bit criminal single-mindedly out for vengeance, a role that would have fit James Cagney like a glove; and Grease (40th Anniversary Edition) - a staple in cinematic and musical history... its timeless music and dance is wildly infectious. Be sure to check out our DVD Talk Review Database for all the latest reviews including an entire section devoted to reviews of DVDs out this week.

Movies in Theaters: Avengers: Infinity War, Isle of Dogs, and Super Troopers 2
Avengers: Infinity War Check out DVD Talk's latest reviews of movies that are in theatrical release. This week's crop includes: Avengers: Infinity War - simply awesome... the most audacious entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the most engrossing. Fans will not be disappointed when they leave the theater; Isle of Dogs - director Wes Anderson breathes wacky life into each character, making them pieces on his very own, nonsensical board game; and Super Troopers 2 - it obviously can't be quite as good as the first, but this sequel is exactly the kind of film you and your friends who laughed right along with you seventeen years ago should see at least once. Check out these, and more, in DVDTalk's Theatrical Review section.

TV Reviews: Mystery Science Theater, Hey Arnold, and Laugh-In
Mystery Science Theater 3000: Season Eleven Interested in the latest TV on DVD reviews? DVD Talk has you covered! This week's notable entries include: Mystery Science Theater 3000: Season Eleven - this reboot delivers on the promise of the original show… the HD quality of the films is a major plus, and the new cast delivering more contemporary pop-culture references within the jokes keeps the whole thing fresh; Hey Arnold! The Jungle Movie - a disappointing revival of the classic animated series, the story picks up after the end of the show and it explores Arnold's journey to San Lorenzo to find his long lost parents; and Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In: The Complete Third Season - the program is quite anarchic for a network show especially back in the 1960’s, with a rotating comedy troupe delivering jokes and sketches at a very rapid-fire pace. Want more?  Check out all of the TV on DVD reviews in the DVD Talk database.

Recent Notable Releases: Up in Smoke,Singing Guns, and Suicide Squad
Up in Smoke There are some new titles coming out that might make it worth a trip to the video store. Check out these recent releases: Up in Smoke - for a comedy like this, not everyone may get it, but everyone should experience it to see why the film and the stars are so beloved; Singing Guns - an attempt at an A-level singing cowboy film… it tries to be more adult, and cautiously limits the singing to just three songs over its 91 minutes; and Suicide Squad: Hell To Pay - everything gels together into a fiercely entertaining cat-and-mouse action movie driven by darkly humorous dialogue and smartly assertive violence. Be sure to check out our DVD Talk Review Database for all the latest reviews including an entire section devoted to reviews of DVDs out this week.
