DVD Savant: Goodfellas, Darby O'Gill and Zorba the Greek
This week the DVD Savant has reviews of Zorba the Greek - Earthy Zorba takes charge of noodly Englishman Alan Bates in this very uneven drama with some strangely savage scenes that sink the Greek high spirits, Goodfellas - Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci and Ray Liotta chill the blood as wiseguys with zero sense of self discipline. One of Scorsese's best and possibly the best film ever made about the Mob, Chastity - Sonny Bono tries to supply Cher with an edgy vehicle in this well-intentioned but mind-numbing exercise in 'serious' filmmaking. See Cher visit a Mexican brothel! Whoopee! 7 Days in September - A good DVCam docu filmed by 23 individual video chroniclers of the 9/11 attack and the week that followed in New York city. Darned gripping and a good record of unforgettable days and Darby O'Gill and the Little People - Disney DVD fibs a bit in the Aspect Ratio department but comes through with a thoroughly enjoyable disc of one of Walt's live-action favorites. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.

Cinema Gotham: Mean Streets - Special Edition
Mean Streets We've been waiting for this moment for some time: The release of the Martin Scorsese boxed set, containing New York classics Goodfellas, After Hours, and Who's That Knocking At My Door as well as Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore. But nothing is more highly anticipated at Cinema Gotham headquarters than the special edition of Mean Streets, the little indie where Scorsese first showed the world what he's truly capable of. Mean Streets is integral to Scrosese's development as a filmmaker as well as to the education of a generation of movie makers and watchers. Oh yeah, and it also introduced the world to a couple of actors named Robert De Niro an Harvey Keitel. Read Cinema Gotham's review here. Also read more Cinema Gotham DVD reviews here.

DVD Talk Interview: Kevin Smith
Any time you sit down with Kevin Smith, no matter what the topic, you know he'll have something interesting to say. At the core, Kevin Smith's films are talkies. Whether it's two clerks engaged in a behind-the-counter debate on which Star Wars movie is better, or two stoner superheroes ranting about Internet Forums and Magnolia fans, it's the conversations that make a Kevin Smith film something really special. DVD Talk Editor, Geoffrey Kleinman, sat down with Kevin Smith to talk about both the upcoming tenth anniversary DVD release for Clerks, the film which started off Kevin Smith's career, and the DVD release of Jersey Girl, a film which marks a distinct change in his career. Smith seemed very reflective about his career so far and had some interesting thoughts about what lies ahead. Read our complete interview with Kevin Smith.
