New Movie Reviews: Guardian, School for Scoundrels, and Open Season
Kevin Costner and Ashton Kutcher try to save the day (and get soaked in the process) in The Guardian. This feel-good drama about the U.S. Coast Guard only helps solidify Costner's recent resurgence as a major Hollywood star. Gather all your sea-faring friends and check out The Guardian as it opens wide today. Also in theaters this week is School for Scoundrels - Jon Heder tries, yet again, to break out of the Napoleon Dynamite stiffness that continues to haunt his career; Open Season - this animated film is more a 90-minute imitation than a fun, original movie; and Revolver - this mind-bending crime film, starring Jason Statham and Ray Liotta, is Guy Ritchie's latest. Be sure to catch reviews of other recent Theatrical Films: The Queen, The Last King of Scotland, Jackass: Number Two, All the King's Men, Flyboys, The Science of Sleep, Fearless, Haven, The Motel, The Black Dahlia, The Last Kiss, Gridiron Gang, Confetti, Everyone's Hero, The U.S. vs. John Lennon, Aurora Borealis, Hollywoodland, The Protector, The Covenant, Riding Alone for Thousands of Miles. As always, we invite you to share your thoughts on films in theaters in our Movie Talk Forum Area.

Anime Talk: Fullmetal Alchemist - The Conqueror of Shamballa and Chrono Crusade
The Fullmetal Alchemist's film, The Conqueror of Shamballa, is featured in this week's Anime Talk. Taking place two years after the series ends, this is film not only wraps up the series, but it does so in a powerful and moving way that will please fans of the show. Other new releases we look at include the complete Chance Pop Sessions, a strong and heartfelt story that, while it drags in parts, is worth checking out and Trinity Blood, a retro styled show about a looming war between vampires and humans. Todd Douglass gives his opinion of volumes 5 and 6 of Chrono Crusade, and Holly is back with more bargains. All that and more in this week's Anime Talk.

TV on DVD Reviews: Stella, Takashi Miike's Imprint and Bewitched
A number of notable TV on DVD releases reviewed this week including: Stealla: Season 1 - a unique and brilliantly funny series on an outstanding DVD worthy of DVD Talk's highest rating; Masters of Horror: Takashi Miike's Imprint - a made for cable DVD series film that was to extreme for Showtime and so it arrives directly on DVD; Bewitched: Complete Fourth Season - plays just as well today, as it did back in 1967-68 -- maybe even better, if you want to indulge in some sociological parlor games; Smallville - The Complete Fifth Season - simply the best season of the show; Roseanne - The Complete Fifth Season - a step above previous seasons. DVD Savant: Frankenstein, Dracula and The Classic Sci-Fi Collection
This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews including: The Classic Sci-Fi Ultimate Collection - The Land of Laemmle offers us five Monster classics of the 50s, a couple of near-greats and a pair of groaners to round out a three disc set; Frankenstein 75th Anniversary Edition - Universal's third visitation of its original horror classic offers a number of classy extras; Dracula 75th Anniversary Edition - This third dip with The Count corrects a few audio fumbles in previous editions; So Ends Our Night - A Classic that Never Was about a subject that Americans didn't want to see in February of 1941; Jigoku - this eerily transgressive Japanese oddity really drips with gore. The Assassination of Trotsky - Richard Burton makes a fine senior-citizen Bolshevik but Alain Delon's conflicted killer is a drag. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.
