New Movie Reviews: Ocean's Thirteen, Surf's Up, and Hostel: Part II
Danny Ocean rounds up the boys for a third heist in Ocean's Thirteen. Steven Soderbergh, George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, and the whole crew are back once again in this latest entry in the successful casino saga. They may not be perfect films, but they're a hell of a lot of fun. Ocean's Thirteen opens everywhere this weekend. Also in theaters this week is Surf's Up - Shia LaBeouf and Zooey Deschanel lend their voices to this delightful animated film that's not-just-another-animated-movie-about-penguins; Hostel: Part II - we follow the ladies this time around in Eli Roth's follow-up to his brutal torture flick; and Your Mommy Kills Animals - Curt Johnson's startling documentary about animal rights activists. Be sure to catch reviews of other recent Theatrical Films: Disappearances, Knocked Up, Mr. Brooks, Day Watch, Severance, Crazy Love, Gracie, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, Bug, Shrek the Third, Delta Farce, 28 Weeks Later, Georgia Rule, The Ex. As always, we invite you to share your thoughts on films in theaters in our Movie Talk Forum Area.

TV on DVD Reviews: The Closer, Roots and Silver Spoons
Rescue Me Season 3 A number of notable TV on DVD releases reviewed recently including: The Closer - The Complete Second Season - an excellent show with well thought out scripts, interesting stories, developed characters, and some very funny moments; Roots - 30th Anniversary Edition - one of those programs that everyone should own, and that families should sit and watch it together at least once every few years; Silver Spoons - The Complete First Season - grow its iconic personality so quickly, becoming a classic nibble of 80's cheese right out of the box; Wait Till Your Father Gets Home - The Complete First Season - not the radical attack on America that you've read about; it's much more genial and middle-of-the-road. Other TV on DVD reviewed recently include: Agatha Christie's Poirot: The Classic Collection, Volume 2, Alexander Hamilton, Chancer - Series 1, The Dark Ages and Jumong, Volume 1. DVD Savant: Sansho the Bailiff and Who Can Kill a Child?
Hell and High Water This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews including: Sansho the Bailiff - Another nigh-perfect Kenji Mizoguchi story, about children sold into slavery and a mother forced into prostitution; Who Can Kill a Child? - Definitely one of the better Spanish horrors of the 70s, this taboo-breaker walks a fine line between fine art and exploitation; Westerns with a Twist Box Set UK correspondent Lee Broughton tackles a trio of westerns made in East Germany: The Sons of Great Bear; Chingachgook: The Great Snake; and Apaches; Vengeance of the Zombies - Eurohorror at low ebb, as Leon Klimovsky and Paul Naschy present a crude pastiche of zombies, Indian spell-casting and Satanic rituals. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.
