Other new DVDs recently reviewed include: The Abandoned, The Elementary Particles, Hell and High Water, The Original Nancy Drew Movie Mystery Collection, An Unreasonable Man. . TV on DVD Reviews: Welcome Back Kotter, MASH and Reno 911
Welcome Back Kotter A number of notable TV on DVD releases reviewed recently including: Welcome Back, Kotter - The Complete First Season - probably the best season out of the series with plenty of sharp writing and fine ensemble acting; M*A*S*H - Goodbye, Farewell and Amen - a must own DVD for any fan of this legendary series; Reno 911! - The Complete Fourth Season - after four seasons, this "Cops" parody has lasted longer than anyone would have predicted, and yet its highs are still as funny as ever; The Mr. Magoo Show - The Complete DVD Collection - even a kinder, gentler Mr. Magoo is still pretty funny. Other TV on DVD reviewed recently include: The Fall Guy: The Complete Season 1, The Henry Rollins Show: Season One, Hogan's Heroes - The Sixth & Final Season, Mail Call: S.N.A.F.U. ,and Walker, Texas Ranger - The Complete Third Season. New Blu-Ray and HD DVD Reviews: Hellboy, Lost in Translation and Rescue Me 3
DVD Talk is your source for unbiased HD DVD and Blu-Ray Disc Reviews. New Blu Ray reviews include: Hellboy - a significant upgrade in picture and sound from the DVD but not all the extras from the 3 disc DVD are included; Curse of The Golden Flower - another fascinating historical epic from Zhang Yimou with excellent picture and sound quality that will make for fine home theater eye and ear candy; Rescue Me - The Complete Third Season - a season of redemption for the series on a disc whose picture quality is a massive improvement over the broadcast versions. New HD DVD Reviews include: Lost in Translation - a little gem of a movie that blew up into a massive gem of a picture gets a solid release in HD; The Frighteners (Director's Cut) - Ambitious, offbeat, but wildly uneven, The Frighteners is a dated visual effects spectacle; Black X-mas (2006) - the spirit and playfulness of a mid-'80s slasher that is a hell of a lot of fun and a much-needed change of pace from the recent sadistic torture-porn. Read these and over 400 other HD and Blu-Ray Disc Reviews. Also don't miss DVD Talk's HD Talk Column covering all things High-Def.

Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.

New DVD Reviews: Shooter, Ichi the Killer and Salesman

Recent DVD Reviews include: Shooter - a little cheesy, a little murky but entertaining in a way that only big-budget studio shoot-'em-ups can be; Ichi the Killer: Collector's Blood Bag - repellent, kinetic, cartoonish and altogether gruesomely violent, this is a landmark not only of Japanese cinema, but serves as the fountainhead for the Splat Pack; Maxed Out - a sharp documentary on the crumbling of America's financial health; Salesman - Masters of Cinema - A great film and a must-see DVD does the film justice. Other new DVDs recently reviewed include: Double Happiness, Fail Safe, Highlander: The Search for Vengeance, Les Claypool - Fancy, On the Riviera and The Spaghetti West.
