New Movie Reviews: Halloween, Death Sentence, and 11th Hour
Nobody really asked for a remake of John Carpenter's classic film, but if anyone is going to do it, why not Rob Zombie with his own version of Halloween? Reactions to Zombie's "re-imagining" seem to be mostly split down the middle (some have loved it...some have hated it), but one thing is for sure...the film is causing a stir. Halloween stalks and slashes its way into theaters everywhere this weekend. Also in theaters this week is Death Sentence - Kevin Bacons stars in James Wan's latest revenge flick; The 11th Hour - Leonardo DiCaprio produced (and hosts) this startling film about the world in which we live (and often taken for granted); and War - Jet Li and Jason Statham square off in this exciting action flick. Be sure to catch reviews of other recent Theatrical Films: Ladron que Roba a Ladron, Balls of Fury, Freshman Orientation, September Dawn, The Nanny Diaries, Mr. Bean's Holiday, The Last Legion, Resurrecting the Champ, The Hottest State, September Dawn, Superbad. As always, we invite you to share your thoughts on films in theaters in our Movie Talk Forum Area.

DVD Savant: House of Games, 3:10 to Yuma and A Midsummer Night's Dream
House of Games This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews including: Sacco and Vanzetti - Documentarians Peter Miller and Amy Carey Linton reconstruct the life and times of the immigrant anarchists whose trial became a major event of the 1920s; Clint the Nevada's Loner, There's a Noose Waiting for You Trinity! & Cjamango - Lee Broughton tackles full analyses of two Wild East releases, a double bill and a single; House of Games - David Mamet's first go at directing is a tense movie about con games run by master player Joe Mantegna, on both Lindsay Crouse and us, the audience; A Midsummer Night's Dream - You will believe that forest fairies can fly! Max Reinhardt's production of the Shakespeare comedy is a magical delight, thanks to the fantastic contributions of the Warners' production department; 3:10 to Yuma - Sony reissues Delmer Daves' western masterpiece in time to tie-in with a new remake; The Last Cigarette - The folks who brought us The Atomic Cafe try the same approach to Big Tobacco and cigarette advertising, with (cough-cough) eye-opening results. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.

New DVD Reviews: As You Like It, Police Beat and Year of The Dog
300 With over 20K DVD reviews in the DVD Talk Review Database, it's easy to overlook some of the great reviews. Recent DVD Reviews include: As You Like It - Kenneth Branagh returns to the bard with another spectacular interpretation of the classic Shakespeare play; Police Beat - One of the best films you've never heard of, an immigrants' tale done so well that had more people seen it, it could have reinvented the genre; Year of The Dog - a strange mutt, but it's irresistible in its way - the movie bites when you think it's about to get cuddly, and it curls up in your lap when you suspect it's going in for the kill. Other new DVDs recently reviewed include: Diana: Last Days of a Princess, Disney's Little Einsteins - Rocket's Firebird Rescue, The Ex, Hana & Alice Life Support, The Milky Way - Criterion, Princess Raccoon, Sacco and Vanzetti.
