New Movie Reviews: Last House on the Left, Miss March, and Race to Witch Mountain
Wes Craven's 1972 exploitation cult classic is reheated, stripped of purpose, and served back to fans as a whole new take on The Last House on the Left. Members of the Whitest Kids U' Know make a movie with Miss March. And Dwayne Johnson teams up with Disney for the reimagined sci-fi actioner Race to Witch Mountain. Also in theaters: Amy Adams and Emily Blunt clean up after dead people in Sunshine Cleaning. And Keira Knightley and Sienna Miller compete for the heart of poet Dylan Thomas in The Edge of Love. TV on DVD: Cracker, East of Eden, and Dead Like Me
Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares - Complete Series One The DVDTalk review database is filled with TV on DVD reviews. Some of the most recent include:  Cracker: The Complete Collection - Robbie Coltrane stars in this outstanding crime series, one of the best ever; John Steinbeck's East of Eden - Acorn Media has scored another coup by releasing this six-hour-plus 1981 ABC miniseries featuring a wickedly beautiful Jane Seymour in the single best performance of her underrated career; and Dead Like Me: The Complete Collection a quirky, funny, inventive little show with moments of terrific humor and genuine pathos. Recently Announced Discs: T2, The Wrestler, and The Good, The Bad and the Ugly
Limited Edition T2 Complete Collector's Set w/ Endoskull [Blu-ray] Die-hard Terminator fans will be excited by the ultra-cool (but pricey)Limited Edition T2 Complete Collector's Set w/ Endoskull [Blu-ray] - in includes the T2 Skynet edition on Blu-ray as well as the Extreme and Ultimate Edition DVD’s in a T800 skull that plays sounds from the film and has light up eyes. It arrives on 5-19-09; the Oscar-nominated film The Wrestler arrives on DVD and Blu-ray on 4-21-09; and arguably the best Spaghetti Western ever made gets the high definition treatment when The Good, The Bad and the Ugly shoots into stores on 5-12-09. DVD Savant: Pinocchio, Treasures IV, and Kramer vs. Kramer
French Connection This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews including: Pinocchio - Walt Disney's most accomplished animated feature is a magical wonder from one end to the other, a sentimental musical masterpiece. Disney Home Video's elaborate Blu-ray release contains a stunning transfer with abundant extras and even a DVD version thrown in to sweeten the pot; Treasures IV: American Avant-Garde Film 1947-1986 - The National Film Preservation Foundation collects 26 museum-grade filmic artworks, one each from the top names in the Avant-Garde underground. Some terrific gems here, in optimal transfers. Two discs and a fat program booklet; and Kramer vs. Kramer - Robert Benton's excellent examination of the personal cost of divorce stars Dustin Hoffman and Meryl Streep in career-topping performances. Role Models Some great discs are coming to DVD this week.
