DVD Savant: The Crazies, Brainstorm, and All Fall Down
The Crazies This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews and articles including: The Crazies - This remake of the George Romero shocker takes it easy on the gore, and generates some fairly intelligent and credible frights; Brainstorm - Scientist Jeffrey Hunter runs afoul of his girlfriend Anne Francis's despotic husband Dana Andrews. A bizarre murder plot ensues, with Hunter feigning insanity as part of his scheme. We all know the pitfall with that strategy. William Conrad's overblown, somewhat preposterous 1965 thriller is acted with an intensity verging on, well, utter madness; and All Fall Down - John Frankenheimer directs Eva Marie Saint, Angela Lansbury, Warren Beatty, Karl Malden and Brandon De Wilde in an absorbing character drama about a philandering son's effect on his family. Great performances in a mostly forgotten winner. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.
