DVD Savant: Kismet, Max Linder, and Video Nasties
Kismet This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews and articles including: Kismet - Take your choice -- MGM clunker or an unappreciated musical gem? Howard Keel is the marketplace beggar Hajj, who will fast-talk himself into an Emir-ship, provided he can come up with the miracles demanded by Sebastian Cabot's execution-happy Wazir; The Max Linder Slapstick Symposium Collection - Max is an original comic talent who inspired Chaplin; he was also the likely model for the Oscar winner The Artist from a few years back... This fine selection of comedies contains three full features and one three-reeler; and Video Nasties:The Definitive Guide - This three-disc collection probably is the last word on its subject, the United Kingdom's anti-'permissiveness' campaign that criminalized 72 horror films. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.

This Week's Notable Releases: The Lego Movie, Ernest & Celestine and Adjust Your Tracking
The Lego Movie There are some new titles coming out that might make it worth a trip to the video store this week. Check out these recent releases: The Lego Movie [review] - There aren't many films that offer a better time for all members of the audience than this does, an all-out blast of fun that gives way to some morals and heartfelt emotion; Ernest & Celestine [review] - a mismatched pair, a beastly yet lovable bear and a creative little girl mouse, forge an unlikely friendship as fugitives in a watercolor-dappled world in this critically acclaimed French animated film; and Adjust Your Tracking: The Untold Story Of The VHS Collector [review] - infused with nostalgia for a time when video stores were plentiful and box art actually was an art, this oral history of video tape collecting is a story of obsession and the way it brings people together... and there's a ton of great bonus content, giving you hours of material to enjoy if rewinding is (or was) your thing. Other reviews of note include Home Before Midnight [review], House of Mortal Sin [review], and The Final Member [review]. Be sure to check out our DVD Talk Review Database for all the latest reviews including an entire section devoted to reviews of DVDs out this week.
