TV on DVD: Adventure Time, Doctor Who, and Medical Center
Adventure Time: The Suitor TV on DVD remains very popular with more and more favorites being released. New TV reviews include: Adventure Time: The Suitor - a mixed-up compilation that highlights the sharper, darker writing of the show's newer episodes... highly recommended; Doctor Who: An Adventure in Space and Time - engaging look behind the scenes of the series' earliest days, it's a very relatable story about creative passion and purpose that far transcends any fan service; and Medical Center: The Complete Fourth Season - Solid writing and (mostly) excellent guest stars keeps Medical Center rolling in this fourth go-around. Other shows recently reviewed include:  New Tricks - Season 10, Afterlife: Series One, and Dragon Ball Z: Season 4.  Want more?  Check out all of the TV on DVD reviews in the DVD Talk database.

This Week's Notable Releases: True Detective, Alan Partridge, and Bushido Man
True Detective Some great discs are being released this week. Check out these new movies: True Detective [Blu-ray review, DVD review] - HBO once again delivers an ambitious drama that's addictively entertaining... Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson anchor this gut-wrenching manhunt drama that manages to cut its own unique path through the well-worn serial-killer subgenre.; Alan Partridge [review] - you don't have to have a familiarity with the TV series to appreciate the movie. It works quite well, offering up plenty of twists and turns and some very funny comedy; and Bushido Man: Seven Deadly Battles [review] - this film is a lot of fun... for those who appreciate quirky, low budget action movies this is worth seeing. Be sure to check out our DVD Talk Review Database for all the latest reviews including an entire section devoted to reviews of DVDs out this week.

The 19th Annual San Francisco Silent Film Festival
San Francisco Silent Film Festival The lovely, historic Castro Theater in San Francisco was the site of the 19th Annual SF Silent Film Festival from May 29th-Jun 1st. DVD Talk reviewer John Sinnott across the country for once again to attend the show because it's easily the best event to see silent films in the country, and one of the best festivals of its type in the world. Artistic director Anita Monga and executive director Stacey Wisnia scour the film archives all around the world to present new restorations, previously lost films, and some outstanding classics to the screen. They don't stop there however. They also arrange to have all of the films accompanied by live music performed by top-tier musicians. This year talent flew in from as far away as England, Germany, and Sweden, as well as some fantastic domestic groups. Highlights of this year's festival include screenings of the the newly discovered alternate edit of Buster Keaton's The Blacksmith, Yasujiro Ozu's gangster film Dragnet Girl, the Russian SF extravaganza Cosmic Voyage, and a wonderful German drama, Harbor Drift. And that's only scratching the surface. Be sure to read DVD Talk's coverage of the festival here.

Recent Reviews: The Max Linder Collection, Fate is the Hunter, and The Sunshine Boys
The Max Linder Collection Check out the latest DVD reviews that have been entered into the DVD Talk Review Database including: The Max Linder Collection - this collection is evidence that Max Linder deserves to be spoken of in the same breath as Chaplin, Keaton, and Lloyd. But this isn't a release just for historians... this DVD is for anyone who likes to laugh; Fate is the Hunter - Glenn Ford and Rod Taylor are excellent as an airline executive investigating a plane crash and the doomed plane's rogue pilot; and The Sunshine Boys - George Burns and Walter Matthau are two old vaudeville performers who will earn a big paycheck if the can recreate one of their sketchs in front of the cameras... if they don't kill each other first. Other recent reviews include: The Wind and the Lion, End Of The World, and The Booker.  Visit the DVD Talk Review Database for all the latest reviews including an entire section devoted to reviews of DVDs out this week.
