TV on DVD: Mad Men, Maya, and Richard Lewis
Mad Men: the Final Season-Part 1 TV on DVD remains very popular with more and more favorites being released. New TV reviews include: Mad Men: the Final Season-Part 1 - The first part of this last season of Mad Men sets up the pieces on the board for their final moves; Maya: The Complete Series - the combination of impressive Indian location work, action-filled, well-written storylines and of course Maya the elephant, make this 60’s adventure series a real find; and Richard Lewis: Bundle of Nerves - devoted fans of the comedian will enjoy having these four programs collected in a convenient, affordable package, complete with a couple of new extras. Other shows recently reviewed include:  Brady Bunch: Season 1, Ghost in the Shell Arise: Borders 1 & 2, and 24: Live Another Day.  Want more?  Check out all of the TV on DVD reviews in the DVD Talk database.

DVD Savant: Shivers, Audrey Rose, and Topkapi
Shivers This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews and articles including: Shivers - David Cronenberg's first commercial feature is barely more than a softcore porn film, but in conception and execution it's a little masterpiece. ; Audrey Rose - From Frank De Felitta's best selling novel, this Robert Wise picture is the most confoundingly prestigious/frustrating horror offering of the '70s, a dumber-than Pazuzu Exorcist follow-up that torments a little girl for two hours, for the apparent purpose of getting us to accept the Eastern religious concept of reincarnation. It's not a thriller, it's an infomercial; and Topkapi - Jules Dassin films the flip side of his pessimistic Rififi in this brightly colored comic caper comedy set in the exotic city of Istanbul. A gang of crooks trick the nervous Peter Ustinov into sneaking across the rooftops of the fabulous Topkapi Museum, there to snatch a priceless treasure for the greedy-but-inspired temptress Melina Mercouri. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.

This Week's Notable Releases: Nightbreed, The Vanishing, and WKRP In Cincinnati
Nightbreed: The Director's Cut There are some new titles coming out that might make it worth a trip to the video store this week. Check out these recent releases: Nightbreed: The Director's Cut [review] - a legitimate director's cut of the movie, it includes a lot of new footage and corrects the results of studio meddling... the film is immeasurably improved because of it; The Vanishing [review] - a masterpiece, really... the performances and technique on display are uniformly excellent while the story remains both engaging and genuinely frightening; and WKRP In Cincinnati: The Complete Series [review] - the place of WKRP within television history is an understated one, one that deserves more attention... when the show goes for laughs, they hit all of pitches thrown at them. Now the program finally has the quality release it deserves. Be sure to check out our DVD Talk Review Database for all the latest reviews including an entire section devoted to reviews of DVDs out this week.

Recent Reviews: Life After Beth, The Last of the Unjust, and Snowpiercer
Life After Beth Some cool discs have been reviewed over the past week. Check out these recent entries: Life After Beth - Aubrey Plaza heads an all-star cast in this fascinatingly different movie about a love that won't die; The Last of the Unjust - French filmmaker Claude Lanzmann (Shoah) takes another look at the Holocaust in this nearly four-hour documentary about Austrian Rabbi Benjamin Murmelstein, one of the few (possibly the only) Jewish Elder to survive the war; and Snowpiercer - Director Joon-ho Bong serves up a thinly-veiled slice of social commentary in this post-apocalyptic tale. Other recent reviews include: La dolce vita, Mulholland Falls, and Kingpin.  Visit the DVD Talk Review Database for all the latest reviews including an entire section devoted to reviews of DVDs out this week.
