TV on DVD: Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C., Silicon Valley, and Pee-wee's Playhouse
Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C.: The Complete Series Some great TV shows have made their way onto DVD recently including: Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C.: The Complete Series - Sharp, funny writing and the inspired team of Jim Nabors and Frank Sutton make this show one of the best sitcoms of the 1960s; Silicon Valley: Season 1 -Mike Judge's HBO comedy series is hilarious... if you like your comedy smart yet silly, this is a wonderful way to get it; and Pee-wee's Playhouse - this uniquely sophisticated Saturday morning show that appealed to adults as much as children has just the right balance of entertainment and education. Other shows recently reviewed include:  Metal Hurlant Chronicles: The Complete Series, Lovejoy: Series 5, and VEEP: Season 3.  Want more?  Check out all of the TV on DVD reviews in the DVD Talk database.

DVD Talk's Sixth Annual Drive-In/Exploitation/B-Movie Challenge
Drive-In/Exploitation/B-Movie Challenge April is here and that means it's time for DVDTalk's Sixth Annual Drive-In/Exploitation/B-Movie Challenge! In this event, fans of trash cinema, the dreck and dross of films, will try to watch 100 B-movies in a single month and (optionally) complete the movie checklist that has such diverse items as watching a 60s Beach Movie, a Mexican wrestling film, a "bad sequel to a well regarded film" and a nunsploitation flick (and much more!). Can you spend the evening chatting about the relative merits of various Bruce Lee imposters or are you someone who realizes that Russ Meyer films are an art form unto themselves? Then this is the event for you! If you think you're up to the test, or even if you just want to watch, check out the official Challenge thread. It'll be loads of fun, and there are prizes too! The fun all starts now and it's never too late to join in the fun!

DVD Savant: Journey to the Center of the Earth, Miami Blues, and The Babadook
Journey to the Center of the Earth This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews and articles including: Journey to the Center of the Earth - James Mason and Pat Boone explore the interior of the earth and find monsters, mushrooms, massive oceans and the lost city of Atlantis; Miami Blues - a young and trim Alec Baldwin shines as Junior Frenger, a weird sociopath-thief who experiences an identity crisis -- he steals a detective's badge and gun and has so much success committing crimes with them that he forgets who he; and The Babadook - It's grim, it's depressing, it seems to gather up all the miseries a single mother could possibly suffer -- and it's a great horror movie, always intelligent, never going for cheap shocks. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.

This Week's Notable Releases: Interstellar, The Imitation Game, and Day of Anger
Interstellar This week several great movies are coming out, including a few that shouldn't be missed: Interstellar [review] - a riveting film... it's sci-fi on the surface, family drama down below, and the resulting combination hits exactly right almost every step of the way; The Imitation Game [review] - a quality awards season movie with polished performances, a class production, and an 'important' topic; and Day of Anger [review] - one of the all-time greatest Spaghetti westerns, this Arrow release includes two versions of the film: the original Italian cut and the truncated international release. Other reviews of note include: The Shanghai Story [review], The Quiet Gun [review], and Gravity: Diamond Luxe Edition [review]. Be sure to check out our DVD Talk Review Database for all the latest reviews including an entire section devoted to reviews of DVDs out this week.
