TV on DVD: The Saint, True Detective, and CPO Sharkey
The Saint: The Complete Series Some great TV shows have made their way onto DVD recently including: The Saint: The Complete Series - before Roger Moore was cast as James Bond, he was Simon Templar, aka The Saint, and this set has the entire 118 hour-long episodes of the show including all 71 black-and-white episodes from the first four seasons for the first time in region 1; True Detective: Season One (Target Exclusive Steelbook) - a well-acted, suspenseful, and extremely confident series that, with just one eight-episode season to its name, has already left a deep footprint with critics and audiences alike; and CPO Sharkey: The Complete Season 1 - Don Rickles, Mr. Warmth himself, stars as the title character, a career Navy man saddled with a company of misfit seaman recruits at a San Diego naval base. DVD Savant: The Onion Field, The Sunshine Boys, and Fritz Lang
The Onion Field This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews and articles including: The Onion Field - A tragic Hollywood kidnapping-murder involving two police detectives became a frustrating case of a cagey defendant jamming the wheels of justice for years on end; The Sunshine Boys - George Burns launched a second career as a senior citizen with his part in Neil Simon's play about two Vaudeville stars that work well together but can't stand each other off the stage; and American Guerrilla in the Philippines - Fritz Lang's odd-film-out is a semi-documentary shot on authentic locations in the Philippines.... the straight story of a Naval ensign who decides to stay on and fight rather than surrender with the rest of the American forces. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.

This Week's Notable Releases: F/X, Spider Baby, and Society
F/X Some great discs are being released this week. Check out these new movies and shows: F/X [review] - this story of a special-effects whiz using his skills to escape danger is a solid thriller with an interesting concept; Spider Baby [review] - Jack Hill's film didn't get a fair shake during the time of its release in the late-'60s, but it's found a creepy cult-status place on home-video, and rightfully so; and Society [review] - an original and twisted work of horror and social commentary highlighted by some amusing performances and strong effects work, it remains as startling and bizarre as it has ever been. Other reviews of note include: Red Army [review], Sleepaway Camp II: Unhappy Campers [review], and She-Devil [review]. Be sure to check out our DVD Talk Review Database for all the latest reviews including an entire section devoted to reviews of DVDs out this week.

Recent Reviews: Apollo 13, A Man for All Seasons, and The Lost World
Apollo 13: 20th Anniversary Edition Our reviewers have been busy this week, filling the DVD Talk Review Database more great entries. Some new reviews of note include: Apollo 13: 20th Anniversary Edition - this film still remains an enjoyable ride 20 years later, thanks to its capable performances, a realistic approach to its historically-charged events, and the terrific details that almost make us feel that we're watching everything unfold as it actually happened; A Man for All Seasons - a world-class cast brings life to an ingeniously scripted classic and this new beautiful-looking Blu-ray presentation will hopefully garner this film new fans; and The Lost World (1925) - this still-entertaining fantasy adventure is famous for its stop-motion dinosaurs and other special visual effects and Flicker Alley's manufactured-on-demand disc is still the best version available. Other recent reviews include: Champs, Arrow in the Dust, and Carla's Song.  Visit the DVD Talk Review Database for all the latest reviews including an entire section devoted to reviews of DVDs out this week.
