Genre of the Week - Documentaries: Hoop Dreams, Deli Man and Giuseppe Makes a Movie
Hoop Dreams This week DVD Talk is going to highlight some of the best cocumentaries that have been released recently: Hoop Dreams - this excellent film helped bring a newfound vitality to documentaries as it follows two young boys in Chicago as they attempt to find success in high school basketball which will hopefully find them securing a college scholarship; Deli Man - a warm and often funny look at the shrinking subculture of Jewish delicatessens; and Giuseppe Makes a Movie - a strange film about strange people, yet it's affecting, funny, vivid and unusually delightful. Be sure to check out the rest of DVD Talk's documentary reviews too.

This Week's Notable Releases: Pitch Perfect 2, Moonrise Kingdom, and The Sentinel
Pitch Perfect 2 Another banner week for DVDs with the studios releasing some great films and boxed sets such as: Pitch Perfect 2 [review] - an entertaining two hours of good times marked by catchy, engaging a cappella songs, an appealing cast and some moments of fun silliness; Moonrise Kingdom [review] - the most well-rounded of Wes Anderson's canon, this movie offers a little of everything, all wrapped up in a stunning display of his exquisite signature style; and The Sentinel [review] - a gleefully perverse slice of seventies horror that makes no qualms about taking things in a few entirely unexpected directions while still sticking to some tried and true genre conventions. Other reviews of note include: Busting [review], The Destructors (The Marseille Contract) [review], and Results [review]. Be sure to check out our DVD Talk Review Database for all the latest reviews including an entire section devoted to reviews of DVDs out this week.

Recent Reviews: Dog Day Afternoon, Samuel Goldwyn Movie Collection, and Backcountry
Dog Day Afternoon Our reviewers have been busy this week, filling the DVD Talk Review Database more great entries. Some new reviews of note include: Dog Day Afternoon - 40th Anniversary Edition - still as timeless, captivating, and relevant as ever; this still an easy film to get caught up in; The Samuel Goldwyn Movie Collection Vol. 2 - the six films on tap here are all fairly strong and many of them have been out-of-print and highly sought-after; and Backcountry - part character study, part horror movie, and part thriller, this film is an unusually compact bit of tension-building that never really settles into any one box. Other recent reviews include: 3 Hearts, Night Train To Terror, and The Age Of Adaline.  Visit the DVD Talk Review Database for all the latest reviews including an entire section devoted to reviews of DVDs out this week.
