Movies in Theaters: Mother!, Kingsman: The Golden Circle, and It
Mother! It'd be a good week to go to the movies. Here are DVD Talk's recent theatrical reviews: Mother! [a 2nd review] - Darren Aranofsky's challenging, terrifying, sometimes even nauseating purging of a bunch of supremely high-concept allegories is one of the most original and thought-provoking, if not one of the best, films of the year; Kingsman: The Golden Circle [a 2nd review] - this second installment works just as well as the first... it doubles down on the R-rated Saturday morning cartoon aesthetic by becoming even more joyfully absurd and wantonly violent; and It - the movie works as a whole, it will definitely scare you, and it's arguably better than the book. Other recent films include: The Dark Tower, The Glass Castle, Atomic Blonde, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Dunkirk, and The Beguiled. Check out these, and more, in DVDTalk's Theatrical Review section.

Notable Releases: Wonder Woman, Waiting for Guffman, and Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
Wonder Woman (4K UHD) Some pretty cool discs have made their way to store shelves over the past couple of weeks. Check out these new titles: Wonder Woman (4K UHD) - one of the best standalone superhero flicks in years… it’s refreshing to see a female lead that's so genuine and empowered at the same time; Waiting for Guffman - one of Christopher Guest's mockumentaries, this movie gets a lot out of its cast of quirky characters allowing the audience to become enamored with them, while still holding them up to ridicule for their choices and mindsets; and Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band - while this is a "bad movie" without any doubt, its ridiculousness earns it a solid place in the so-bad-it's-good category. New Reviews: E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Phantasm, and Home for the Holidays
Phantasm - 5 Movie DVD Collection Our reviewers have been busy this week, filling the DVD Talk Review Database more great entries. Some new reviews of note include: E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (35th Anniversary Limited Edition) - a classic family film that is as entertaining today as it was thirty-five years ago. This new 35th Anniversary Limited Edition 4K Ultra HD package offers fantastic picture and sound and ports over the solid selection of supplements from the 2012 Blu-ray; Phantasm - 5 Movie DVD Collection - the franchise itself is a great, bizarre bit of business and this budget release collects the entire series while offering a good chunk of extras for good measure; and Home for the Holidays - perhaps Jodie Foster's best film... it's aged quite well thanks to great performances from the ensemble cast, smart direction, and a wonderful screenplay by W.D. Richter. Visit the DVD Talk Review Database for all the latest reviews including an entire section devoted to reviews of DVDs out this week.
