TV Reviews: Ned and Stacey, Modern Family, and Veep
TV on DVD and Blu-ray remains very popular with more and more favorites being released. New TV reviews include:
Ned and Stacey: The Complete Series - the perfect blend of smart and silly, with a great cast nimbly delivering loads of laughs; Modern Family: Season 8 - a few episodes in this season that stand out as examples of the program at the peak of its powers, but overall the show has settled into a level where it's comfortably enjoyable;and Veep: Season 6 - this sixth season had to try and live up to an absurdly high bar that Season Five had put upon it, and it comes close at times.

Notable Releases: Vampyr, The Ambassador, and Stone Cold Dead
Several great movies and programs have come out recently, including a few that shouldn't be missed:
Vampyr - this movie retains its power to enchant viewers close to a century since it was made, a unique film that is as eerie as it is compelling and a masterpiece of visual storytelling; The Ambassador - this thriller is an unexpected mix of violent action with serious drama about a late-middle aged couple and their complex relationship; and Stone Cold Dead - an entertaining and reasonably sleazy slice of seventies exploitation filmmaking… a decent cast helps the film rise above its modest budget and somewhat predictable storyline.

New Reviews: The Island of Dr Moreau, Certain Women, and Hana-Bi
Some cool discs have been reviewed over the past week. Check out these recent entries:
The Island of Dr Moreau - if you love 70s flicks and sci-fi this film should be added to your short list and kept on a shelf with the classics; Certain Women - wonderfully acted and beautifully told, it's a movie that will leave you wondering about these characters long after the credits have rolled; and Hana-Bi - one of Takeshi Kitano's finest cinematic achievements and an excellent mix of very human drama with some startling scenes of underworld tension.
