TV Reviews: Ernie Kovacs: Take A Good Look, Green Acres, and Bob Hope
Ernie Kovacs: Take A Good Look: The Definitive Collection Some great TV shows have made their way onto home video recently including: Ernie Kovacs: Take A Good Look: The Definitive Collection - a wonderful, odd prank of a game show, where Ernie cracked worldview and off-kilter comic sensibility tests the patience of his celebrity panel to the potential delight of his audience; Green Acres: The Complete Series - by all odds the funniest American sitcom of the 1960s… an absurdist exercise in continual, nonsensical frustration as humorless Oliver Douglas moves to a strange world of oddball characters operating under their own other-dimensional logic; and Bob Hope: Salutes the Troops - another collection of Bob Hope specials where he and a number of guests visit the military overseas to brighten their time there during the days surrounding Christmas. Notable Releases: Girls Trip, The Old Dark House, and Howl's Moving Castle
Girls Trip Several great movies and programs have come out recently, including a few that shouldn't be missed: Girls Trip - propped up heavily by a star-making performance by Tiffany Haddish, this movie is a truly raunchy and fun comedy; The Old Dark House - a lot of fun, a genuinely quirky mix of laughs, chills, suspense and hey, even a bit of good old fashioned romance thrown into the mix for kicks; and Howl's Moving Castle - a film that exhibits the same striking visual enormity of other films from Hayao Miyazaki… a bewitching fantasy with bold antiwar themes that give it plenty of meaning.
